Franklin Gutierrez had an injury-plagued 2012 season.  However, he recovered from his injuries and put up big numbers while playing winter ball.  His confidence and excitement level were high coming into this season.  Unfortunately, after a slow start, he suffered a hamstring strain and landed on the disabled list.  However, he is getting better and could start a rehab assignment soon says Greg Johns of MLB.com. Franklin Gutierrez (hamstring) ran well in Seattle today and could go out on rehab assignment as early as tomorrow or Friday. — Greg Johns (@GregJohnsMLB) May 15, 2013 Gutierrez suffered the injury in late April and was expected to miss three weeks.  If he goes out on a rehab assignment like planned, that estimate may turn out to be pretty accurate.  Generally, players will play a couple rehab games before rejoining their team. The Mariners could certainly use Gutierrez's defense.  He is an above-average outfielder who won the Gold Glove in 2010.  He could win many more Gold Gloves if he can stay healthy.  However, his bat is inconsistent.  So far this season, Gutierrez is hitting .259/.286/.537.  In his career, he has hit .256/.308/.388.
