TEAMS: New York Mets
The international signing period for MLB teams starts on July 2nd, which is this upcoming Tuesday. Once that day comes, teams will be able to sign 16-year-old international players they’ve been evaluating. Ben Badler of Baseball America breaks down the top 30 players today. He’s pinning the Mets as targeting catcher Ali Sanchez and shortstop Luis Carpio. Sanchez ranks as the 25th-best international prospect on this list, but Badler says he’s a solid second choice after Jose Herrera when it comes to catchers. The backstop hails from Venezuela, and stands at 6′ tall and 180 lbs. He already has some international playing experience; he’s participated in the 2011 Pan American Championship for Venezuela, and has also played in the international prospect league in the Dominican Republic. Here’s what Badler has to say about Sanchez: Sanchez is more athletic than Herrera and has more experience catching, which is evident in his catch-and-throw skills. He’s an intelligent, high-energy player...

David Wright To Rest Against Rockies

It wasn’t as if David Wright was going to challenge Cal Ripken in the first place. Wright will be out of the New York Mets’ lineup tonight in Colorado for their make up game against the Rockies. There was speculation Wright might lobby manager Terry Collins to keep him in the lineup. Despite being on a tear lately, Wright knew he needed a night off and being the DH in Chicago...

Collins Says Quintanilla Will Remain Starter At SS When Tejada Comes Back

The question has been asked and answered… Mets manager Terry Collins spoke to reporters today and said that Ruben Tejada will have to earn back his starting shortstop job when he returns from the disabled list. Unless he can do that, Omar Quintanilla has earned the right to keep the job, Collins said. “Based on what we’ve seen right now, Ruben’s gotta earn it back,” Collins...

Mets’ All-Star hopefuls reach final push

With the All Star game a little more than two weeks away, prospective Mets’ all-star hopefuls have two more weeks to showcase their skills for the Mid-Summer Classic, which, as you all should know, is being held at Citi Field. The last time the Mets hosted the All-Star game was back in 1964. Just how cool would it be if—even in this sub-satisfactory season—on July 16, when...

Byrd’s season can’t be described as anything less than miraculous. After...

You Mad, Bro? “One Night Stand In Colorado” Edition

From SB Nation’s “Purple Row” Blog: “Please let’s win this game” “Welp.” “Yep, EY2 has offically won the game for the Mets already.” “No David Wright! Huzzah! ” “2 pitches in and the Mets announcer have already called it Mile High Stadium” “Time zone fail. Thought this game started at 5:10 my time, missed the top of the 1st.” “So did the mets...

Byrd’s Late Two-Run Jack Propels Mets To 3-2 Win Over The Rockies

Well, how about that? This was an excellent team effort for the win tonight in Colorado and it wrapped up an excellent road trip for our New York Mets. Whether these games will matter down the line or not, it’s nice to see our team banding together and playing some decent baseball for an extended period of time. It was Jeremy Hefner on the mound tonight — and surprise, surprise…he...

Bullpen Wastes A Solid Start By Harvey In Mets 6-4 Loss To Nats

The Mets lost to the Nationals tonight by a score of 6-4 at Citi Field. Matt Harvey started the game and was, of course, fantastic, pitching 7 innings of 1-run ball and striking out 11 Washington hitters. Ross Detwiler was pretty good as well for the Nationals, giving up 3 runs (2 earned) in 5 innings of work. The Mets struck first in the bottom of the fourth when David Wright scored...

Eric Young extended his hitting streak to seven games last night, one shy of his career-high. Young is hitting .419 (13-31) during that current stretch. Young’s career-best is an eight-game hitting streak, September 6-13, 2010. Since joining the Mets on June 19,  Young is batting .359 (14-39) with five runs scored, four doubles and six RBI. He has taken to the Mets and to left...

Families and friends all bustled towards the main gate, eager to be seated and ready for the game’s...
