Mike Leake improved his season record to a team-best 10-4 on Wednesday as the Reds turned away the Giants, 8-3, at AT&T Park. However, the manner in which Leake emerged victorious is somewhat unique. Leake won the game in spite of allowing a whopping 12 hits in six innings of work. The 25-year-old became the first pitcher since Marlins right-hander Ricky Nolasco in 2011 to surrender that many hits yet yield only one run. The last Red to achieve the feat was Tom Hume all the back in 1978. Furthermore, the last time a starting pitcher did it to the Giants was San Diego's Bob Moose in 1972. Obviously, Leake's performance required him to pitch out of trouble a lot during the contest. Of course, it helped that all of the hits the Giants got off him were singles. According to Baseball Reference, no pitcher has ever had an outing as short as Leake's and still manage to give up only one run on 12 hits. The next shortest was 6.2 innings. The moral of th...

Mike Leake has been unbeatable on the road

Mike Leake is unexpectedly unbeatable on the road. Chad Gaudin's winning streak, however, may be more surprising. Leake looks to continue his mastery outside Cincinnati as the Reds attempt to solve Gaudin and re-establish their success against the San Francisco Giants in the finale of this four-game set Wednesday night. Leake (9-4, 2.79 ERA) is tied with Mat Latos for the team...

This week we will take a look at third baseman Tanner Rahier and relief pitcher Abel De Los Santos.

Reds sign 19-year-old Dominican pitcher to amateur deal

The Reds have tapped into the Dominican Republic once again by signing 19-year-old pitcher Luis Tejada to a $600,000 signing bonus. This is according to a report by Ben Badler of Baseball America. Tejada had previously inked a deal with the Atlanta Braves for $125,000, but that contract fell through after Major League Baseball discovered the southpaw lied about his age, and subsequently...

How Manny Parra Became My Favorite Player in 3 Words

Manny Parra was not always my favorite player. Some of you might remember when I said the Reds should give out booze, like they do with 11 strikeout pizza, when Parra and Alfredo Simon pitched in the same game. Parra has been pretty great lately, something I attributed to his Boston Rob like facial hair. After he got out of a late inning jam in the Reds win last night, I made more...

Injury Report

Ryan Ludwick Ryan Ludwick was sent out on rehab assignment with the class A Dayton Dragons yesterday while they played the Lansing Lugnuts. Ludwick was the DH and had three plate appearances. He popped out, walked, and singled. Nice that he’s trying out all the possibilities. Perhaps tonight he could try out that home run muscle. Ludwick has been out of the major league line-up...

Corky Miller causes Reds Fans to ponder their very existence

This is from a Cincinnati Reds discussion forum I visit frequently to check the pulse of things. The discussion thread is titled “We have to talk about Corky”. Reds fans are starting to echo our same point about Corky Miller from a while back – we assumed it would be his final big league stint – and now that festered splinter is back. Here are their mortified responses. ...

Bruce, Paul homer to back Latos, Reds top Dodgers

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Mat Latos threw 7 2-3 innings and the Cincinnati Reds got home runs from Jay Bruce and Xavier Paul to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-2 on Thursday night, ending the NL West leaders' six-game winning streak. Latos (10-3) allowed two runs -- one earned -- and eight hits with four strikeouts en route to his first victory at Dodger Stadium after going 0-5 with...

Dodgers get one over on Choo — twice

Shin-Soo Choo is a career .289 hitter and bats leadoff for a playoff contender. But on Thursday night, he fell victim to two of the oldest tricks in the book, making the Reds-Dodgers game look like something out of "The Bad News Bears." The trouble for the Cinicannati center fielder started in the fourth inning, as he fell victim to a baserunning ploy by Los Angeles rookie...

Reds snap Dodgers' win streak

Reds 9, Giants 3

Devin Mesoraco had a three-run homer among his three hits for his second longball in as many games, Joey Votto and Zack Cozart also connected, and the Cincinnati Reds pounded the San Francisco Giants for the second straight game with a 9-3 win Tuesday in the opener of a traditional doubleheader. Cozart finished 4 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs to back Tony Cingrani (4-1). The...

Reds split doubleheader after missed chances

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Even after his Reds fell behind early for a change, the way Cincinnati had been slugging it out against the San Francisco Giants left manager Dusty Baker confident his club would still pull off a win. Too many missed chances did in Cincinnati this time in a 5-3 loss to the Giants, and the Reds settled for a split of their traditional doubleheader Tuesday night...

Video: Giants fan gets taken down hard after running onto field

A pair of fans made their way onto the field during the second game of a doubleheader between the Reds and Giants at AT&T Field Tuesday night. Another fan sitting in the front row on the first base side received an up-close view of all the action that took place when one of the intruders was brought down by security. While the other fan was being tracked down near the infield...

Giants top Reds in Game 2

The Reds split a doubleheader with the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night. But when you lose Game 2 in a long frustrating fashion, the split doesn't feel so even. "Long day," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "Real long day." The Reds beat the San Francisco Giants 9-3 in Game 1 and fell 5-3 in Game 2 before a crowd of 42,310 at AT&T Park. In Game 2...

Reds minor leaguer suspended 50 games

NEW YORK (AP) -- Atlanta Braves right-hander Humberto Carpio and Cincinnati Reds outfielder Yoel Noel have each been suspended 50 games for violations of baseball's minor league drug program. Carpio and Noel were each penalized Friday after testing positive for anabolic steroids. Carpio tested metabolites of Stanozolol and Noel for metabolites of Nandrolone. Both players were...
