After a weather delay forced Sunday’s game to be suspended until Monday, the Mississippi State Bulldogs had to wait a little longer to punch their ticket to the College World Series in Omaha.Picking up in the seventh inning with a 5-3 lead, the Bulldogs added a sixth run in the bottom of the frame. Despite a two-run charge by the Virginia Cavaliers in the top of the ninth, led by a Joe McCarthy RBI single, the Bulldogs would hold on to cement a 6-5 lead and in the process, advance to their ninth College World Series in school history, the first since 2007.The number six ranked Cavaliers were outplayed in the Charlottesville Super Regional by a hot-hitting Bulldogs offense, led by shortstop Adam Frazier. Frazier led the charge in an 11-6 game one victory, going 6-for-6 with three RBI, following that performance with a solid game two, in which he went 2-for-5 with two RBI.Bulldogs head coach John Cohen recognizes the strength displayed by his team, but also understands the challenging road ahead in Omaha.“They all wanted to be in Omaha,” Cohen said of his players, “but that was not the goal. Their goal is to try to win the whole thing. We’re excited, but at the same time, I think we still have some journey to go.”After posting a 48-18 record this season, Mississippi State is determined to leave Omaha with their first NCAA title in school history, a tough task ahead for the Bulldogs, but more than manageable for a strong team led by top prospects Adam Frazier and Hunter Renfroe.
