Magic Johnson sat down for a candid interview with TMZ earlier this week in the wake of his son EJ walking hand-in-hand with his boyfriend down the streets of LA. Johnson and his wife Cookie have made it clear that they fully support EJ’s decision to come out publicly, which has led to a great deal of praise from athletes and other people who feel the Johnsons should serve as an influence for others in a similar situation. As an NBA legend, MLB owner, father of an openly gay son and someone who lives with HIV, Magic is at the center of many issues involving the LGBT community. And if a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers ever decides to come out, Johnson said he will be his biggest supporter. “If that ever happened I’m going to support them, 150%,” Johnson stated emphatically. “(I’ll protect them) as much as I can. That’s who I am, I’m a protector. I protect my family. That’s why I was really upset that people were attacking my son and my family. “As an owner, you really have to support the person. And, then, help educate the public. Once the organization and the owner (supports the gay player), then everybody else has to say, ‘OK, we’re going to support them.’ Or, you just have to deal with it.” Magic said that he told EJ that his decision to come out is going to be “bigger than you” and will have a tremendous impact on the gay community. He said that an athlete has yet to come to him to reveal that they are gay and ask for advice, but he has received calls from athletes who are talking about “somebody else” struggling with being gay. Magic also talked about when he found out EJ was gay, saying that his son never went to him but that he and his wife sat him down at about age 13 to have a discussion. The goal, he says, was to make sure to protect and support their son. Finally, Magic discussed how he feels about some of the hateful reactions that have surfaced on African-American blogs and other forums. The situation can’t be easy for the Johnson family, but the way they are handling it is admirable and should help pave the way for acceptance. If an athlete really is as close to coming out as this report says he is, Magic could be one of many influential figures to lean on. Bay Area politicians have discussed Warriors parade

The Golden State Warriors lost their first playoff game in six attempts Tuesday night against the Memphis Grizzlies. That loss didn’t only tie the series up at one, it gave the Grizzlies home-court advantage heading back to Memphis for the next two games. It was the Warriors first loss in Oakland since a January 27th overtime defeat against the Chicago Bulls. Despite this recent...

WATCH: Shaq trips and eats it

Shaq has been involved in plenty of hilarious moments on Inside the NBA—like when Kenny Smith shoved him into a Christmas tree. That said, what happened during halftime of Wednesday’s Clippers-Rockets game was one of his most entertaining sequences. As Shaq got up to head toward the video wall, he tripped over a microphone wire and was sent hurtling to the floor.   Down...

When Billy Donovan accepted Sam Presti’s offer to become the Oklahoma City Thunder’s head coach, two coaching positions opened up: at Florida and at USA basketball.  The former is expected to be filled sometime this summer. The latter was reportedly filled this afternoon.  According to Adam Zagoria, Arizona’s Sean Miller will take over for Donovan as the head coach of USA...

Cardale Jones responds to Joakim Noah's trash talk

The Joakim Noah vs. Ohio State feud has escalated to another level.  As we wrote earlier, the Chicago Bulls’ big man mouthed “you ain’t in the SEC” to Buckeye quarterback Cardale Jones at his team’s playoff game in Cleveland Wednesday night. OSU four-star linebacker Justin Hilliard then trolled Noah on Twitter.  We now have what we really wanted, though: a response...

Cavs show requisite desperation to make this a series

Hit us up on Twitter @CrossoverNBA Chalk another one up to the stink of desperation. Desperation in all forms of life is an un-manufacturable (fake arse word) thing. It’s the fight or flight situation in real life, or in the case of sports, the thing that makes you play like your very soul is on the line. That’s what the Cleveland Cavs had to do tonight, and you know what...

WATCH: Gronk tells media you can deflate deez nuts

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is apparently fed up with the media’s coverage of Deflate-gate. Speaking up about how the media hounded him following a charity event he took part in on Wednesday, the charismatic Super Bowl champion had one message for the media. And one message only. So yes, he wants us to deflate something other than a football. You can use...

The Big 12 football’s new tiebreaker procedure

In 2014, the Big 12 had two of the best teams in the country in Baylor and TCU. The Bears and Horned Frogs finished the season with one loss each, and played one of the most entertaining games of the year—a 61-58 Baylor win in Waco. When it came to choose the four team College Football Playoff field, however, the conference’s two powerhouses were both left at the altar in favor...

The Pittsburgh Pirates’ season should turn around soon

Following two straight NL Wild Card berths, expectations were high for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2015. But thusfar, those expectations haven’t been realized. Through the first month of the season, the Pirates are 12-14, eight games back of the white-hot St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. But because of how top-heavy the National League is this season, the Pirates are solidly...
