The All-Star Game is about a month away, and will be held at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets. As of Sunday, the only Mets' position player that had a reasonable chance of starting the game was third baseman David Wright. Wright was 200,000 votes behind Pablo Sandoval of the Giants as of the last voting update on Sunday, but will likely end up starting due to Sandoval's foot injury.

Anyway, the Mets would really love to see Wright earn his starting job...so much so that they reached out to Cougar Life in an attempt to get votes for Wright, according to Deadspin and verified by Mike Puma of the New York Post.

You probably have seen the Cougar Life commercials during a variety of sporting events, but the Mets going to them trying to get more votes for Wright is bizarre, and that's the nicest thing I can say about the situation. It just reeks of desperation, but hey, they're the Mets. What do you expect?

Puma then followed up his initial tweet by saying that Mets decided to pass on the partnership after management got wind of the situation.

"Last year there was a big swing of votes at the end that cost David the starting job. We decided to do everything to make sure that doesn't happen again this year. We ultimately elected to pass. We thank whoever leaked this to Deadspin for increasing awareness of #VOTEWRIGHTNOW at mets.com."

4 Comments:
  • An article about cougars authored by Mike Puma ? Sounds a little fishy to me.
  • Cougar Life voted David as their number 1 baseball cub (something like that) so not surprised the Mets went to the site for help.

Lack Of Wright’s All Star Game Support Is Not On The Fans, It’s On The Mets…

David Wright spoke out about the overzealous campaign by the Mets to get him voted to the All Star Game. “It’s nice when the organization is trying so hard to do something for one of their players and I can’t thank them enough for that,” Wright said. “But at the same time, I’ve asked them to kind of back it down a little bit, especially with the stuff between innings...

David Wright and the Home Run Derby Curse

Last night, David Wright and Robinson Cano were named the captains for the home run derby at Citi Field in July. Under the new format, this means this means that both Cano and Wright will be participating in the derby along with picking three other participants from their league for the derby. Many times, when players participate in the derby, they change their swings in order to...

Mets Ask Cougar Dating Site To Help Wright Get All Star Votes

Deadspin writes: When the first vote totals for the MLB All-Star Game were released last week, David Wright was in second. A desperate Mets marketing department didn’t want Wright to lose to Pablo Sandoval for the second year in a row, especially not with the game being held at Citi Field. So one employee decided to turn to an untapped voting base, one that would support Wright...

Mets Approached Dating Site ‘Cougar Life’ To Get David Wright More All Star Votes

So now it’s come to this. After a series of emails were leaked to Deadspin, the Mets had no choice but to admit they stooped down to hitting up a cougar/cub dating website to help promote David Wright’s All Star Game bid. Wright lost out to Giant’s 3rd baseman Pedro Sandoval last year, and this year Sandoval already has a lead on him. With this year’s games taking place...

Mets take an unconventional approach trying to get David Wright to the All-Star game

Cougar Life is a dating web site for older women to find younger men. Last month, the site asked their members which baseball player they’d most like to score with, and NY Met David Wright came out on top (pun intended…or not). A staff member in the Mets marketing department thought they could use this prestigious award (or something) to get Wright more All-Star votes. This...

David Wright Shows Graciousness In Embarrassing Moment

For those scoring at home, the website Cougarlife.com, has over 3.9 million members, which is probably close to double what the New York Mets will draw this year. And, a fraction of that would be enough to select David Wright to the All-Star Game this July at Citi Field. So, despite the obvious reaction of “what were they thinking?’’ the potential numbers indicate it might...

All-Star Captains Wright & Cano Show Off Hats: Hit or Miss?

The MLB All-Star Game captains, Robinson Cano and David Wright show off their new garb for the game at Citi-Field. The uniforms are pretty generic for an All-Star game, but those hats could be the worst in ASG history. With all the old school homage Citi throws in your face, they could’ve just done flat out better. Leave it up to the mets to blow it. We’re sure they’ll still...
