It’s well-known that NBA rookies usually have a tough go at it in the locker room. Veterans commonly like to pick on the young guys, and may make them do things like carry their bags, sing in public etc. However, when you add the usual rookie hazing with April Fool’s day, you get things like this happening to Cleveland Cavaliers rookie guard Dion Waiters. Waiters, who has been a pleasant surprise in his rookie campaign after leaving Syracuse early, found his car covered in…popcorn.

Like any great prank, there are pictures to prove it courtesy of USA Today Sports.

That’s just dirty. Maybe this is Waiter’s teammates telling him to pick and pop more…

Former Syracuse Star Dion Waiters Gets The ‘Popcorn In The Car’ Prank

Cleveland Cavaliers player and former Syracuse Orange guard Dion Waiters has put together a pretty nice first season in the NBA. But he’s still a rookie, meaning that regardless of how well he plays, he’s going to get hazed. His Cavs teammates decided to play the ol’ ‘popcorn in the car’ prank on Dion this past weekend. Original? Probably not. Annoying for Waiters to have...

The Cleveland Cavaliers have developed an asinine ‘recovery plan’ for Kyrie Irving

As part of an asinine “recovery plan,” superior Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving will not compete in consecutive games for the rest of the 2012-2013 campaign. The 21-year-old Irving, averaging 23.2 points, 5.7 assists and 3.7 rebounds over 50 contests, has been plagued with a bummed knee and sprained left shoulder for the better part of a month. Irving, a 6-foot-3...

Irving sits, won't play back-to-backs

Cleveland point guard Kyrie Irving did not play Monday night against Atlanta, part of a recovery plan that will have the All-Star sitting every other game for now. After missing eight straight games with a sprained left shoulder, Irving scored 31 points and had six assists Sunday in the Cavaliers' 112-92 loss in New Orleans. For the time being, Cleveland officials plan for...

Cleveland Cavaliers: Shut Down Kyrie Irving. Now.

Why is Kyrie Irving playing,  coming off yet another injury, with only two weeks left in the season? This is absurd. He is the Cleveland Cavaliers’ franchise player and their hope for a better tomorrow, as the 20 year old is already one of the top 10-15 players in the NBA and the player they are going to be building around for the next 10+ years. Yes, Irving scored over 30 points...

The Cleveland Cavaliers lost again despite Kyrie Irving’s 31 points in his first game back from injury.

The Cleveland Cavaliers lost another game. Even though Kyrie Irving hit for 31 points in his first game back since being benched by injury. The Cavaliers did what they have done all season long. They came out of the locker room and played the 3rd quarter as flat as the hardwood they played on. Cleveland went in for the half-time break with a 1 point lead. They came out in the 3rd...

Cavaliers play April Fool’s style prank on Dion Waiters a few days early

A timeless tradition like no other. No, we aren’t talking about The Masters. We’re talking about the old popcorn in the car gag. Apparently the veterans decided it was time for Cavs rookie Dion Waiters to enjoy some tasty popped corn on Friday. [Related: Byron Scott falls victim to generational gap, frustration]

Kyrie Irving scores 31 in his return

The Cavaliers said he'd be back if he could come back.  Coach Byron Scott had indicated that the club had no intentions of holding their young point guard out of action if he was medically cleared to play.  Well, he was medically cleared to play and available yesterday.  So he played.Irving, in his return from a shoulder injury that could have cost him the season, scored 31...

Cavaliers visit Big Easy looking for a victory

After a strong start to a difficult home stretch, the New Orleans Hornets couldn't meet the challenge in their last two games. Things aren't likely to be as tough in the finale Sunday night against the injury-plagued Cleveland Cavaliers, who are mired in their worst losing streak of the season. The Hornets (25-48) lost to Golden State and beat Boston to open this season-high...

Byron Scott falls victim to generational gap, frustration

Byron Scott is a paternal figure. Wise and experienced, the Cleveland Cavaliers head coach tells stories fit for the campfire. He has won multiple championships in the City of Angels, partied with Jack Nicholson, and shared a locker room with Big Country. He appreciates the finer things, is an NBA historian, and oftentimes finds himself wondering just what makes today’s players...

Mark Cuban had Parsons sign offer sheet where???

I don’t think you could dream up a more appropriate way for Chandler Parsons to sign his $45 million offer sheet from the Dallas Mavericks, than to have Mark Cuban be with you while hanging out in a nightclub. Parsons, the third-year forward for the Houston Rockets, has suddenly been thrust into the spotlight of Houston’s off season, as general manager Daryl Morey attempts to...

Pitino on Chris Jones: As good a guard as I've coached

Rick Pitino has coached some pretty good guards during his nearly 40-year career in college basketball.  Recently at Louisville, there was Russ Smith, the two-time All-American, and Peyton Siva, the point guard who led the Cardinals to a national championship in 2013. He had a host of talented players at Kentucky, too, the school with which he won it all in 1998.  A player currently...

Former NBAer uses 'Patrick Ewing' alias, gets arrested

Former Chicago Bulls player and assistant coach Rick Brunson had a clever trick up his sleeve in order to get an appointment with a masseuse he’d been banned from seeing. Records show that the 42-year-old Brunson had booked 19 appointments – seven of which were with the accusing party — at Lifetime Fitness in Vernon Hills (Ill.) from December 2011 through August 2013. According to Brian Windhorst, the Nets owe $90.57 million in luxury taxes for the 2013-14 season...
