It's the Pac 12 Tournament and Bill Walton is ending the year with a bang. The redhead has had a glorious return to the broadcast booth working games for the Pac 12 Network and ESPN this year after being sidelined due to health reasons. Walton was in rare form today, even by his Grateful Dead infused high standards, so much so that the Pac 12 actually sent a press release with some of his best quotes from the early action. But those were nothing compared to what Walton said coming out of commercial with the Pac 12 mascots coming out of a limousine. It was worthy of a double take, a spit take, and any other _____ take you could muster. Bill Walton made a joke about being in the limosuine with ESPN's shiny new NFL analyst Ray Lewis, who just happens to have a bit of history with limos:
"I was way in the back with Ray Lewis and it was unbelievable how much fun, oh my gosh, how many people were in there!"
Dave Pasch's deadpan reaction may be the perfect complement to the clip.
UPDATE: And fittingly enough, Walton also made a Bill Simmons joke after Dave Pasch suggested he'd get in trouble for only hocking Southwest Airlines. Again, Pasch plays his role as the straight man excellently. I'll have to check the record books, but I think Bill Walton may have just put together the greatest half in Awful Announcing history.
We'll provide updates throughout the evening to see if Walton keeps this performance up. Of course, he could also be escorted out of Las Vegas by ESPN security at any moment.
UPDATE: Here's some of Walton's best quotes from the second half...
"Fans beyond description, dancing angels of mercy, what more could you ask for. It's all happening."
Dave Pasch says working with Walton this weekend will age him 8 years. Walton: "Your wife's been calling me."
Pasch: "How much of that is instinctual as a shot blocker, how much of it is teaching?" Walton: "100 percent of both."
"Lorenzo Romar just pulling his hair out!" (Romar is bald)
Walton on Arsalan Kazemi, "His parents own a candy factory four hours south of Tehran, oh my gosh how sweet it is."
"Both teams riding quasars all the way to the top of the mountain and the promised land."
Walton: "So many things here have defied rational thought." Pasch: "You're not kidding."
Bill Walton, working the Pac 12 Tournament, drops a Ray Lewis in the limo joke. On ESPN. The moronic new employer of a certain sketchy ex linebacker. Straight man Dave Pasch seals the...

Bill Walton had a night for the ages while he was calling the Pac-12 Tournament game between Washington and Oregon on Thursday night. Those who are familiar with Walton know that the NBA legend has never shied away from saying what’s on his mind and telling the truth. That was certainly the case on Thursday night while he was working for ESPN, and I’m sure the network has already...
ESPN appears to have a lot in common with Carnival cruise ships these days--they are out of control and just a little bit smelly. From employees bashing the networks product to quips and jokes it seems as if anarchy is the law of the land in Bristol. The only thing the network does seem to control is the exposure that inflammatory comments from the likes of Skip Bayless and Rob Parker...
Bill Walton's on-air behavior has been consistently weird this college basketball season, and that didn't change tonight as broadcasting's biggest Grateful Dead fan launched into numerous questionable tangents during ESPNU's Pac-12 tournament coverage of Washington-Oregon from Las Vegas.
Making first a reference to Ray Lewis's murder and obstruction of justice...
Bill Walton made jokes about two ESPN personalities in one broadcast? That should go over well.
Bill Simmons was suspended by ESPN from tweeting this week after criticizing their show, First Take, last week. If Walton doesn’t watch his mouth, he may get a similar suspension from broadcasting.

Bill Walton may be joining Bill Simmons in ESPN jail very soon. He told a joke about new ESPN employee Ray Lewis during Thursday night's broadcast of the Washington - Oregon Pac-12 Men's Basketball Tournament quarterfinal on ESPN U. One involving that incident in Atlanta back in 2000.
If ever there was a king of ill-timed jokes, my music counterpart Taylor has to be the reigning king. But ESPN’s Bill Walton tried to take his throne yesterday with some rather interesting quotes about Ray Lewis and Bill Simmons. Watch the videos below courtesy of Blacksportsonline, as Walton takes a shot at new ESPN [...]
Scott and I decided to talk about the Bill Simmons twitter suspension and ESPN’s lack of comment on it. Not necessarily the normal topic of conversation on the site, but one that we both cared to touch on.
Here’s what else we talked about that I can remember…
First Take and the battle of Richard Sherman and Skip Bayless
Skip Bayless’ history as a journalist
Stephen A. Smith...
If your Twitter feed has been feeling a little lean this week, it’s likely because Grantland Editor-in-Chief Bill Simmons was handed a social media timeout by the Mothership in Bristol, for comments made regarding an ESPN program. The program in question is…wait for it…are you sitting down?…First Take, which features (a lot of) Skip Bayless saying (a lot of) things — and...
Bill Simmons reportedly was suspended by ESPN from Twitter for a few days for criticizing “First Take” last week.
Last Thursday, Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman went on the offensive attacking host Skip Bayless during an appearance on the ESPN morning show. The video went viral, and there was no comment from ESPN on the embarrassing segment.
Simmons, who is the most...
