For the second straight season the Carolina Panthers have drafted a defensive player with their first pick of the Draft by selecting defensive tackle Star Lotulelei with the 14th pick.It would be the perfect setting if Lotulelei wins Defensive Rookie of the Year following in the footsteps of linebacker Luke Kuechly.Lotulelei was a three-year starter at Utah where he shared the Morris Trophy in 2011 with Matt Kalil, and was a two-time All-Pac 12 selection.During his senior season with the Utes; Lotulelei had 42 tackles with 11 of them for a loss and 5 sacks to go along with 4 deafened passes, 3 forced fumbles, and 4 fumble recoveries. He also had 1 blocked punt to secure a 24-21 win over rival BYU.Lotulelei stands at 6'2" and weighs in at a whopping 311 pounds and offers the speed an agility to play at any position across the defensive front. He is a nice selection for the Panthers since they already have a "Middle of the Pack" defense; he will give them the explos...

First Round NFL Draft Grades: Carolina Panthers

PICK: Star Lotulelei, DT, UtahANALYSIS: I still don't get why the Jets passed on him, but Carolina must be thrilled. I knew it had to be Star when the pick was in within a few minutes. He's the best DT in the draft, yet he somehow fell all the way to Carolina at 14. The defensive tackle position has been a huge need in Carolina for years, and they've finally gotten a...

Star Lotulelei Sliding? Bring Him to 18

The following is the 9th in a series of draft profiles for the 1st round pick for the Dallas Cowboys. These profiles are put together with the specific needs of the Cowboys in mind, and is an attempt to examine their resumes and game tape to get an idea of who might fit in best with Dallas come draft day. Surely, circumstances will dictate what actually happens on that day, but we...

Carolina Panthers Select Defensive Tackle Star Lotulelei 14th Overall

1.14 Carolina Panthers Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah, (6-3, 311) Lets face it, the Panthers have been one of our favorite fantasy defenses to play running backs on for quite some time. Quite some time. With the Panthers picking Star Lotulelei out of Utah, they will have two very good players up the middle to shore up that run D.  Lotulelei had a medical scare at the NFL Combine but...

Panthers select Utah DT Lotulelei with 14th pick

The Carolina Panthers bulked up their defensive front by selecting Utah's Star Lotulelei with the 14th overall pick in general manager Dave Gettleman's first NFL draft. It marks the first time the Panthers have selected a defensive tackle in the first round since joining the league in 1995. Defensive tackle was considered a position of need for the Panthers, who released...

And with 14th overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft the Carolina Panthers select…

Star Lotulelei DT from the University of Utah.  Star is and will be a Star in the NFL I guarantee it. This is a great pick for the Panthers who were just dreadful on defense last season.  Another BIG MAN in the first round.  He shared the 2011 Morris Trophy for the best lineman in the Pacific-12 Conference with Matt Kalil, and was named All-Conference First Team.

Chip Kelly’s first draft, will he trade up, down or stay put?

The Eagles still hold the #4 overall pick in the draft, at least as of now. Rumors and reports that the Eagles are looking to move that #4 pick, moving up in the draft does not seem very sensible. Mock drafts have the Eagles snagging with their current pick  a defensive tackle or end, Star Lotulelei Utah, Shariff Floyd  from Florida or defensive end Ezekiel Ansah BYU. Moving up...
