The worst-case scenario basically happened. Two days after the NHL sent a proposal calling for a 50-50 split in revenue to the NHLPA, both sides met Thursday in Toronto. The union sent three counterproposals to the league, but all three were rejected in a matter of minutes. “It’s clear that we’re not speaking the same language,” NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. “I am concerned that we’re not progressing” “This is the best offer that we have to make,” Bettman said of the league’s proposal. “The fact is, we’re nowhere close to what we proposed.” Bettman would go on to say that no new talks have been scheduled. NHLPA Executive Director Donald Fehr said that the NHL had proposed to cut player salaries by 12.3 percent; something that the players don’t consider fair. “The players offered to make real concessions in terms of reducing their share of HRR, with some small degree of protection,” Fehr said. “The players don’t see any reason to take less in terms of dollars.” Fehr also said that
