Like a father watching his son ride a bike on his own for the first time, I am super proud of Kyle Kendrick and you should be, too. Or, as Jim Salisbury put it, "Kyle Kendrick has become a man." The ups and downs in Kendrick's career are like a bike ride through the Appalachian Trail: minor leaguer-turned major leaguer-turned playoff starter in 2007; major leaguer in 2008-turned minor leaguer in 2009-turned major leaguer in 2010; reliever-turned starter-turned reliever-turned starter in 2011 and 2012; and a fake trade for Kobayashi thrown in for good measure. And here is the latest twist: after last night's complete game shutout, Kendrick's 2.41 ERA is the best on the staff...and it didn't come from nowhere... The numbers are impressive:

Adding Ruiz without Aderall: what will Phillies get?

Carlos Ruiz returns to the Phillies today and he will do so without his long lost friend Aderall. Although it might be a fun drug at parties or to cram for a big exam for college students, Aderall doesn't exactly scream baseball. Aderall doesn't improve bat speed, it doesn't add distance on home runs, and it doesn't help players rebound quicker from injuries. But...

Kendrick’s Complete Game Shut-Out Ends Losing Streak

It’s a bird!  It’s a plane!  No!  It’s Super-KK!  What a relief for the Phillies after dropping 3 straight games to the Pirates, to see Kyle Kendrick pitch a gem against the Mets.  The 4-0 win came just in the nick of time, before this team spiraled way out of control. In the complete game shut-out, Kendrick allowed only 3 hits and a walk.  He kept his cool, even after...

Howard Blast Backs Up Kendrick's Gem

After three brutal losses to Pittsburgh, Kyle Kendrick threw a beauty tonight in Citi Field. He kept the Mets off balance the whole game, allowing just three hits and one walk. Really can't emphasize how important it was. The bullpen needed to rest up, the offense has been shaky and...

Philadelphia Phillies Reinstate Catcher Carlos Ruiz From Suspension

The Philadelphia Phillies have reinstated catcher Carlos Ruiz how has been out due to suspension after serving a 25-game Adderall suspension. He is good to go and should resume a solid bat in the Phillies lineup. To make room for him, Philadelphia designated catcher Humberto Quintero. Last season Ruiz smacked out 16 home runs in 114 games. The post Philadelphia Phillies Reinstate...

Philadelphia Phillies: 2013 ERA for the MLB 5 at game 24

Most staffs typically have a significant drop-off after their 1 and 2, but the Philadelphia Phillies with Kyle Kendrick have a strong 4. How do the top west coast teams fare at the bottom of their rotation? TAL’S HANDY STATS WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: I will publish the 2013 ERA for both the NL East and the MLB 5 periodically. The number of games played by the Phillies is in the...

Galvis, Howard Power Hamels to First Win, Sweep of Mets

Howard came up big in the clutch in a 5-1 Phils win to cap the sweep. Photo: Seth Wenig, AP On a day where Cole Hamels struggled with control, issuing six free passes, Hamels kept his composure to pick up his first win of 2013 in a 5-1 Phillies win. Hamels allowed only two hits to limit the damage of his free passes on a day where the Mets struck early on a David Wright RBI single...

Philadelphia Phillies Need to Begin Rebuilding Phase, Blow Up Roster Immediately

The Philadelphia Phillies are now 23 games into their season, more than one-eighth of the way through, and they stand at 9-14. This was a team that didn’t just need, but was virtually required to get off to a decent start to prove this roster, however aged, could still win. Instead, the team finds itself 5 games under .500 almost a month into the season. It is time to blow up the...

Hamels Gets 1st Win as Chooch Returns for Sweep of Mets

Perhaps it is fitting that Cole Hamels did not get his first win of the season until the day Carlos Ruiz returned from a 25-game suspension.  Throughout the weekend, the Phillies suddenly began to show signs of life.  Maybe a lot of that had to do with the anticipation of Chooch’s return. After losing 3 of 4 to the Pirates, the Phils proceeded to storm New York and sweep the...

Kyle Kendrick, Dillon Gee Square Off In Series Opener In Queens

So the Phillies really lost 3 out of 4 to the Pirates....ouch. Honestly blame it on the bullpen because Cole Hamels, Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay ALL threw great games, but the bullpen either blew the lead or blew the game. Yesterday afternoon Cliff Lee tossed seven innings of three-run...

Phils Mash Mets In Saturday Matinee

The Phillies offense had the right amount of zen against the Mets today. (PHOTO: AP) Behind the power of 12 hits, including back-to-back home runs, and stellar pitching from the bullpen, the Phillies slugged their way to an easy 9-4 victory over the Mets today.
