Many of us remember a month back when Pavel Datsyuk went end-to-end through all five Nashville Predators to beat goalie Pekka Rinne. Many of us also remember 18 years back when we played NHL 94 while drinking Slice. Here is a video via NHL.com that combines the majesty of said Datsyuk goal with the timeless SFX and graphics-package of NHL 94. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpUjwy02kcI Makes me miss the Hartford Whalers more than ever. If you don't remember or know of NHL 94, SHAME ON YOU. Seriously, age is no excuse. NHL 94 is arguably the greatest sports video game of all-time, released in the golden era of 16-bit game counsels that included such titles as NBA Jam, Madden 95 and Bulls vs. Blazers and the NBA Playoffs. I know these days you kids love to get online and 'chirp' about how you beat 'dusters' with your 'dirty cannon' from 'Stammer' then make him do 'sick cellies' on NHL 13 but in a perfect world sports video g...

Video blog: Datsyuk bidding farewell to Wings?

Detroit Red Wings fans were buzzing about the rumor of Pavel Datsyuk possibly bidding farewell to play in Russia.

Datsyuk scores in EA’s NHL 94…Sort of…

This video comes to you through multiple hands...I stumbled upon it via RedWingsFeed, and Sportsline's Brian Stubits saw it via a Tweet from NHL.com's Dave Lozo, but it's worth the effort. NHL.com took Pavel Datsyuk's end-to-end goal against Nashville and de-pixelated it, added some sound effects and turned it into a clip reminiscent of most over-30 hockey fans'...

Darren Helm suffers setback, playing Wednesday now a ‘pipe dream’

Just when you thought the Wings could be overcoming the injury bug that’s plagued them all season… another setback. While preparing for his anticipated return Wednesday, Red Wings forward Darren Helm lasted less than 10 minutes on the ice when his back once again became an issue. This is according to the Detroit Free Press. “Yeah, I think we’re dealing with a little minor...

Henrik Zetterberg lends a hand to an injured high-school hockey player

According to DetroitRedWings.com's Bill Roose, Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg has decided to lend a hand to Mary Mrdjenovic, a young lady whose high school athletic career's come to a premature end due to a severe back injury. The 4.0-GPA student applied for a Detroit Red Wings foundation college scolarship, and she's going to receive one: “We have our scholarship...

Red Wings will bring prospect Calle Jarnkrok to Detroit to visit, not play

Red Wings prospect Calle Jarnkrok's Swedish team, Brynas IF, won't repeat as Swedish Eliteserien champions. They were ingloriously swept from the playoffs by Skelleftea AIK on Monday, leaving Jarnkrok's future up in the air. The Wings signed him a year ago, but chose to loan him to Brynas for the Eliteserien season, and the Swedish-language newspapers have assumed that...

Nicklas Lidstrom on ‘teasers’’

Via RedWingsFeed, former Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom's in Gothenburg, Sweden today to take part in a photo shoot for a clothing line (seriously), and Goteborgs-Tidingen's Johan Skold asked Lidstrom about the role of a "retstickor"--literally translated, a "teaser," or what we might call "instigators" or "shift disturbers"--in...

Red Wings overnight report: broken players and a prospect in the pipleine?

My technological odyssey continued on Monday afternoon, so I took a little time to attend to something I'll need to write a short story about one day... And the Red Wings and their fans received bad news, bad news and more bad news in the injury department. In theory, we all assumed, Kyle Quincey had only suffered a chipped cheekbone, and could be back within a week or two...

Red Wings-Wild wrap-up and overnight report: disallowed game

The Detroit Red Wings fell into an all-too-familiar trap in dropping their first (and in this case "only") game back from a Western Canadian road swing against a team that had made the same trip, dropping a 4-2 decision to the Minnesota Wild in a game that wasn't nearly as close on the ice as it was on the scoreboard. While the Wings weren't particularly thrilled...

Fredo’s Back Soon, And This Time For Good

How long before we see this?  "Getting Carlo back is just like kicking some tires at the deadline and coming away with a special player, a special man, really. I like our team." Ken Holland's big offseason splash is on the verge of returning, essentially guaranteeing the Wings one period of excellence before he gets hurt again. Defenceman Carlo Colaiacovo also...

GDT - Game 30: Red Wings (14-10-5) host Wild (16-10-2) 7:30

The Western Conference standings are tighter than Adrian Dantley's wallet.  The Wings 33 pts have them holding onto the 7th spot at the moment, 3 pts out of 4th place, and only 3 pts in front of 10th place CBJ.  Jobu was apparently in charge of Tuesday's practice;  Eaves is questionable after being hit in the mellon by a puck, Datsyuk has the flu, and Hank has the runs...

All Chuck Fletcher

from Dan Rosen of NHL.com, A lot of general managers will say they look at the Detroit Red Wings as the model for consistency as a franchise. As a younger GM with experience working in the League for several teams, does that play with you as well and do you want to model your team after the Red Wings? "I think so, but it's a pretty tough path to duplicate their...

Tootoo goal waved off

The Red Wings theoretically scored a goal here, but referee Dave Jackson deemed Drew Miller to have tipped the puck down with a high stick:

Red Wings-Wild quick take: bad breaks or a given-away game?

I'm well aware of this fact... they will not say this in the room, but you have to wonder what would have been different, here, .... 1/2 — gregg krupa (@greggkrupa) March 21, 2013 2/2 if the refs had not disallowed tootoo's goal, which would have tied the game at one. might have changed much. — gregg krupa (@greggkrupa) March 21, 2013 But,...
