Found October 31, 2013 on PensInitiative:
The Pittsburgh Penguins stared down some of their demons on Wednesday during a 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins. There were times during the game I wondered if the refs had eyes or knew what a penalty was as both sides got away with a lot of questionable play, but the Pens were able to capitalize on their opportunities and come away with the victory. The truth is for at least two periods of the game last night, the Pittsburgh Penguins were by far the better team. Just ask Bruins Coach Claude Julien: “Give them credit. They were a determined team. For at least two periods they were the better team…” Go ahead, read the rest »

Like a fine wine: Pascal Dupuis. By, @LuigiLemieux

Like a Fine Wine: Pascal Dupuis. Article by Kyle Fritz (@LuigiLemieux) for Pens Initiative The Marian Hossa Trade will go down in Pittsburgh Penguins lore as one of the most influential moves ever made by a Penguin front office, in the best way possible. Yes, it brought the Slovak winger to the Steel City, where he promptly injured his knee and failed to ever...

We're Going Streaking!!!! by @ExcitedBobErrey

The first month of the NHL season is in the books, and the Pittsburgh Penguins have already opened up a 7 point lead in the Metropolitan Division. While Pittsburgh's 114 point pace has a lot to do with it, it certainly doesn't hurt that the division is shaping up to be easier than a .... well, there are many analogies that fit here, but at the risk of insulting your mother...

VIDEO: Pittsburgh’s Pascal Dupuis pulls out two teeth, keeps playing

Hockey players continue to show why they’re collectively the toughest SOB’s in all of sports. After taking a high stick to the face from his own teammate in Kris Letang, Pittsburgh’s Pascal Dupuis heads to the bench where he proceeds to pull out two teeth and hand them over to the trainer. All this without more »

Dougie Hamilton, Matt Bartkowski Go Trick-Or-Treating at Children’s Hospital (Video)

Halloween is right around the corner, and a few members of the Boston Bruins got some early trick-or-treating in at the Children’s Hospital of Boston earlier in the week. Matt Bartkowski, Dougie Hamilton and Reilly Smith made the rounds dressed up as a pirate, a baby and Buzz Lightyear, respectively, to bring smiles to the faces of s few young fans. Check out highlights from the...

Boston Bruins: Late rally falls short in Pittsburgh

Trailing 3-1 with just over two minutes left in the third period, the Boston Bruins (7-4-0) tried to pull off another improbable comeback that the team has had a flare for in recent history. After late goals by Brandon Sutter and Jussi Jokinen made it a two goal deficit late in the game, the Bruins pulled goaltender Tuukka Rask, getting the extra man on the ice in hopes of tying...

Notes & Lines: The Bruins Return to Pittsburgh

The last time these two teams faced one another, only one of them showed up for the games. Will it be different tonight? Will anyone in Boston be watching with game six of the World Series taking place? Pittsburgh Penguins lines via Daily Faceoff: Chris Kunitz - Sidney Crosby - Pascal Dupuis Jussi Jokinen - Evgeni Malkin - Matt D'Agostini...

Penguins hold off Bruins, 3-2

This Penguins’ 3-2 victory against Boston at Consol Energy Center Wednesday night does not make up for what the Bruins did to the Penguins in the Eastern Conference final this spring, of course. The stakes weren’t as high as they were in the postseason, and neither was the intensity. But it wasn’t really all that far from it, either. Certainly, it was not just another autumn...

Great Moments In Unlicensed Pittsburgh Sports Merch: Zombie Penguins

I gotta thank usbzoso for the tip on both of these shirts back in April. And we had to sit on them for six months for Halloween because get real. Above, we have a lovngly-rendered zombie version of captain Sidney Crosby, titled as the CROZBIE APUCKALYPSE. I got this in early April, so I'd imagine it was riffing on Sid's then-fresh broken jaw. Only that's now in the...

Sidney Crosby: Returning the Favor by @griffTHW

It's proven to be the case on more than one occasion.  To this point in his career, injuries appear to be the only thing capable of preventing Sidney Crosby from making the NHL his own personal playground.  In 2007-08, for example, a high ankle sprain derailed Sid's bid to repeat as the league's scoring champion and Hart Trophy recipient.  In 2010-11, "...

The Bruins-Rangers Thanksgiving Showdown commercial is pretty great

The Boston Bruins and New York Rangers will face off against each other for a matinee on Black Friday this year, and the NHL on NBC has put together this great ad to hype the game. The commercial – directed by Bobby Farrelly – pits a family split between Bruins and Rangers alliances against each other during the holidays. Among the famous faces you may recognize include a slimmer...

Jarome Iginla is quickly becoming a Bruin

After a slow start to the season, future Hall of Fame winger Jarome Iginla has exploded offensively for the Boston Bruins. He entered tonight’s game against the Anaheim Ducks riding a 5-game point streak. The streak was snapped, but he…Read more →The post Jarome Iginla is quickly becoming a Bruin appeared first on The Hockey Daily.

Bruins Find Way to Bounce Back, Get Win After Team Leaders Step Up (Video)

The Bruins found themselves down early on Thursday night against the Anaheim Ducks, but the boys from Boston were able to battle back and take a win at home on Halloween night. Captain Zdeno Chara tied the game up at two with minutes remaining in the third period, giving the B’s the opportunity to win in overtime. When that didn’t happen, it went to a shootout. Despite being...

Penguins-Blue Jackets Preview

The Pittsburgh Penguins scored four regulation goals for the first time in six games Friday against the Blue Jackets. They'll get a chance to do it again Saturday night at Columbus as they try to complete a home-and-home sweep against their new Metropolitan Division foes. The Penguins (10-4-0) last went six games without scoring four regulation goals from Dec. 29-Jan. 11, 2012...

Chara, Iginla Lead Boston Bruins to Thrilling Win

Apparently the Red Sox aren't the only Boston team with a flair for the dramatic this season. Zdeno Chara scored a power-play goal with 2:50 left in the third period to tie the game at 2-2, and Jarome Iginla was the only player to score in the shootout, giving the Boston Bruins a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night. The Bruins' captain was able to draw a...

Scott suspended seven games for hit on the Bruins Loui Erikson

In my opinion, this suspension, isn't long enough. I would like to see this be a 10-game suspension. Just for the record, Loui Eriksson hasn't played since October 23rd, because he's suffering from a concussion. Also, during his NHL Career, John Scott has scored a grand total of (1g-4a—5pts) in 187 NHL games. Not known for his offensive prowess, the Sabres' pylon...
