The Philadelphia Eagles, who were riding a temporary high after a 23-21 win over Tampa Bay last week, quickly crashed landed on the cold, hard ground in Lincoln Financial Field Thursday night, losing to the Cincinnati Bengals 34-13. Turnovers were once again the story of the night, and the Philadelphia Eagles had five of them. On top of that, they had a punt blocked. The rest is history. This was another bad loss in the disastrous 2012 Philadelphia Eagles season. Offense: Rookie quarterback Nick Foles took two steps backwards Thursday night. It was disappointing to see him regress the way that he did, but how much can you expect from a rookie quarterback who is not named Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III? It was not all Foles’ fault, however. The offense simply could not hold onto the football. The five turnovers and blocked punt led to 31 of the Bengals 34 points. Running Back Bryce Brown struggled for the second week in a row, rushing for just 34 yards on 16 attempts. He also lost another fumble, which marks the fourth game in a row that he has done that. Despite all of the struggles, the Eagles held a 13-10 lead at halftime, but that is when things went south. The Eagles committed three turnovers on three straight possessions in the third quarter, which gave Cincinnati a 24-13 lead. Things would not improve in the fourth quarter and the Eagles offense went as cold as the Philadelphia air. Grade: F Defense: When you look at the score and see that the Bengals scored 34 points, you instantly will think that the defense played horribly. That, however, was not entirely the case. While not great, the defense played admirably at times even though the offense continually put them in near impossible situations. The pass rush was by far the best it has been all year. Quarterback Andy Dalton was sacked six times and was hurried several other times by the Eagles front seven. The secondary, however, only played a little better than it has this season. Still, it was nice to see defensive end Brandon Graham show that he may have what it takes to play in the NFL after all. It was also nice to see rookie defensive tackle Fletcher Cox make some tough tackles and 1.5 sacks. Overall, it was a fair night for the defense, which seems to be improved now that the wide-nine is mostly gone. Go figure. Maybe firing Jim Washburn was a move  that Andy Reid should have made a long time ago. Grade: C+ Overall, this game represented what this Eagles season has been about. Turnovers and missed opportunities plagued the birds all night. They now sit at 4-10 with two games remaining in the season. Next week the Eagles will try and play the role of spoiler against the young, upbeat Washington Redskins.
