The Good Roy Halladay looked very sharp in two innings against the Tigers. Other than a mistake that Victor Martinez took out of the ballpark, Halladay sat at 89-91 MPH with his fastball and needed only 14 pitches over two innings. Antonio Bastardo and Joe Savery each had a quick, scoreless inning while Rodrigo Lopez shutdown Detroit prospects across three scoreless innings, striking out three. Justin Friend, who was not scheduled to pitch today, retired the Tigers 1-2-3 in the tenth to preserve the tie. On offense, the Phillies exploded with extra base hits. Kevin Frandsen is making his best case to keep the door open for playing time at third, hitting an RBI single and a HR. The Big Piece had two doubles, including a second inning double against Justin Verlander. Dom Brown’s eighth inning, pinch hit solo shot tied the game up at five for the Phillies. Tyson Gillies had a double and stole third while Jimmy Rollins also had a single and a steal. Areas of Opportunity J.C. Ramirez struggled mightily. Ramirez gave up three hits and a walk in the fourth leading to three earned Tigers runs. And honestly, that’s about it. The Phils were solid today – the bullpen did about as well as expected and the Phils put up five runs via nine hits. The Phillies and Tigers will play again tomorrow at 1:05 PM in Clearwater.
