Found February 01, 2013 on Kukla's Korner:
The Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues face off tonight (7:30 PM, FSD, FS Midwest/NHL Network--sorry, Center Ice and GameCenter Live subscribers, if you don't get the NHL Network, you're screwed/WXYT AM) with the Blues continuing to absolutely steamroll their opponents, and the Wings feeling very determined to make amends for their 6-0 shellacking by St. Louis on the 2013 season's opening night. The Wings, who will presumably have Henrik Zetterberg in the lineup despite the fact that he missed Thursday's practice, are beginning a February schedule in which they'll play 15 times over the course of 28 nights, including 4 sets of back-to-back games--starting tonight as the Wings will head to Columbus and tangle with the Blue Jackets on Saturday--and the team currently sits in third place in the Central Division with 7 points and a 3-2-and-1 record. The Blues, who are much healthier, have 12 points and boast a 6-and-1 record, including four straight wins and a ...

David Backes ejected for alleged hit to head, but officials blew the call (Video)

St. Louis Blues captain David Backes was ejected from Friday night's game at Joe Louis Arena after receiving a match penalty for allegedly delivering an illegal hit to the head of Detroit Red Wings defenseman Kent Huskins. However, it would appear that the Blues got the short end of a horrendous call by NHL referees Chris Lee and Ian Walsh, as replay clearly shows Backes hit...
REMEMBER ME?

Backes levels former teammate Huskins

St. Louis Blues center David Backes is known as a physical player across the league. A player that plays the game the right way with tenacity, grit and aggression. Backes, the Blues' captain and top-line centerman, played a physical game against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night in a 5-3 loss on the road. Unfortunately, the refs thought Backes may have been too physical...

Zetterberg - Leading Like Lidstrom

Chris note: Twig will likely have a reflection on the game as a whole tomorrow morning, but Franklin has another guest post for us on the #1 star of the night, Henrik Zetterberg.  By Franklin Steele:  Henrik Zetterberg was raised for this. At least since he became a Detroit Red Wing.  I can't speak as to what kind of childhood Z had, but I'd assume it was...

Zetterberg leads Red Wings over Blues

Henrik Zetterberg scored three goals, and his second assist of the game set up Pavel Datsyuk's tiebreaking goal at 9:38 of third period to help the Detroit Red Wings beat the St. Louis 5-3 on Friday night. The Blues' four-game winning streak was snapped. Zetterberg scored the first two goals and set up Jonathan Ericsson's tying goal early in the third period. Detroit...

Detroit Red Wings’ Brendan Smith a Nice Surprise on Struggling Blue Line

Recently I wrote that it is Niklas Kronwall’s time to shine now that Nick Lidstrom has hung up the skates, but a long with Kronwall, a younger Red Wings blue liner is coming into his own a little quicker than expected. Brendan Smith, the highly touted Wisconsin Badger star, got his feet wet briefly last season with the Red Wings, but were not able to see a lot. Back in college...

Detroit Red Wings finally getting well

The Detroit Red Wings are starting to look like the Red Wings gain. Since opening with a 6-0 loss at St. Louis, they have gone 3-1-1 in their last five games.“We weren't very competitive,” Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said of that season opener. “Now we have an opportunity to evaluate ourselves six games later and see where we're at.”The Red Wings are 2-0-1 in their...

Jackets set to take on red-hot Blues

The St. Louis Blues have been getting plenty of offensive production throughout their lineup. The struggling Columbus Blue Jackets are just looking for someone to step up after trading star forward Rick Nash last summer. St. Louis will try to extend its best start in 15 seasons on Thursday night when the Blue Jackets open their longest homestand of the season. Playing six games in...

Ugly - Officials blow late call on David Backes

The year is young, yet it already has been an ugly season for NHL officiating. Across the league fans are complaining about the inconsistent and extremely ticky-tacky calls officials are making. Nudge a player in pursuit of the puck? Prepare to sit. Get mauled by a defender? Play on. The officials in the St. Louis Blues / Detroit Red Wings game on Friday took things to a whole...

Great Moments in Tomas Holmstrom History

Homer! Demolition Man. The Angry Chipmunk. Whatever we use to describe him, it is out of pure admiration. How can you not love the guy who spent his entire career with one team being one of the biggest pains in the neck for opposing goalies/defensemen simply through the art of non-violent resistance? Which is the same art I managed growing up, playing the victim so my 3 older brothers...

Early blitz carries Blues to win over Jackets

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Barret Jackman, Patrik Berglund and Vladimir Tarasenko each scored in the opening 14 minutes, Brian Elliott made 24 saves and the St. Louis Blues won their fourth straight game with a 4-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night. David Backes, who also had an assist, added an empty-netter. T.J. Oshie had two assists. Derick Brassard scored...

GDT - Game 7:  Red Wings (3-2-1) host Blues (6-1)  7:30

After getting taken to the whipping post by the Blues on opening night, 6-0, DET will be looking for a much better effort.  The Wings aren't alone though, STL are crushing it right now, and it is easy to see why:  3.86 G/G (3),  2.00 GA/G (3), 2.33 5-5 F/A (2),  34.6%PP (2), and 20.3 SA/G (1).   Babcock said of the opening game:  "We weren't very competitive...

David Backes hit on Kent Huskins

This was the hit that St. Louis Blues forward David Backes put on Detroit Redwings defenseman Kent Huskins. Backes was given a five minute major and match penalty. In looking at the video it doesn't look like Backes even hit Huskins in the head. What do you think?

St. Louis Blues: Is David Backes the most important player on the Blues?

During Friday night's 5-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues center and captain David Backes was issued a five minute major and a game misconduct for a hit to the head of Red Wings' defenseman Kent Huskins. The hit by Backes was likely clean and the Blues gave up the game-winning goal on the ensuing penalty. While Backes made headlines because of a huge hit that...
