Hustling fan favorite Shavlik Randolph will not return to the Boston Celtics next season. Representatives for Randolph, a six-year veteran center, were informed Thursday that the Celtics would not be picking up the $1.1 million option on his contract for the 2013-14 season, reports Baxter Holmes of The Boston Globe. Randolph’s departure brings the Celtics’ roster size down to the maximum 15 players, but will not drop them below the $71.7 million luxury tax line. The Celtics have told Shavlik Randolph that they are not picking up his option, Randolph's agent tells the @BostonGlobe.— Baxter Holmes (@BaxterHolmes) August 01, 2013 Randolph, 29, signed two 10-day contracts with the Celtics in March, later signing through the end of the season with a non-guaranteed team option for a second season. He averaged 4.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game over 16 games with the Celtics. Filed under: Boston Celtics, Headlines, NESN Staff, Twitter

Randolph's play in Boston should keep him in the NBA CSNNE's Jessica Camerato spoke with Shavlik Randolph yesterday evening, and here's what he had to say about his future and time with Boston: "I don't know if there's enough room on the paper for what to say to the fans. I'm just extremely, to the highest level, thankful for their support. I don'...

Report: Celtics Inform Randolph They Won't Pick Up Option

The deed is done.  According to ESPN Insider, Jeff Goodman, the Celtics have informed Shavlik Randolph that they will not be picking up his team option for the 2013-14 season.  Although I'm surprised it took until nearly 6:00 this evening, Boston's waiving of Randolph shouldn't come as a shock. Had the Celtics picked up the big man's $1.1 million option they would...

Celtics cut ties with Shav Randolph

The Boston Celtics have released Shavlik Randolph before his contract was set to become guaranteed the power forward told ESPN's Jeff Goodman. Randolph's $1.1 million salary would have been guaranteed if the Celtics did not waive him by the end of the day Thursday. The Celtics' roster now stands at the regular-season limit of 15 players all of whom have guaranteed...

Celtkicks: Rajon Rondo Nike Hyperposite p.e.

An absolutely sick pair of Rajon Rondo Nike Hyperposites recently surfaced on EBay. These Nike basketball shoes, which blend a sleek hoops shoe with a high-tech foamposite, were made specially for #9. Unfortunately, due to last year’s injury, he never got to rock them. They sold on EBay for just under $1000. Rondo wore the Hyperposites last year, most notably a sweet mint green...

The Four Best Moves of the Celtics' Offseason

Whether you wanted to admit it or not, the summer of 2013 was almost guaranteed to be a busy one for the Boston Celtics. The team was coming off of a first round playoff exit they suffered at the hands of the New York Knicks and, judging by the emotional exchange that took place between Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett as the final minute or two of Game 6 ticked off the clock, it was...

Boston Celtics: Who will be the leader of the pack now?

This offseason for the Boston Celtics has been quite eventful, but it did leave many questions for the organization. Some of the biggest questions coming from the fans are these: 1. Who is the late game closer? 2. Who will bring the intensity on deffense? 3. Who will be able to get a much needed bucket? The list could surpass those few questions by a mile, but there is one question...

Kelly Olynyk Still Mostly Unknown Commodity Despite Summer League Standout Status (Poll)

As impressive as Kelly Olynyk was as a summer leaguer, the Celtics’ first-round draft pick will head into his rookie season as something of a mystery man. It is still unclear what Olynyk’s final position will be in the NBA and what role coach Brad Stevens will put him in. Normally, a 7-footer is slotted in as a center and that’s that. But Olynyk does not have the girth or the...

It's August 1st, do you know where your Shavlik is?

Boston must decide today whether or not to cut Shavlik Randolph, or his $1.1 million contract becomes fully guaranteed for next season.  No word yet on any decision from the C's.  Keeping Randoplh would give the Celtics 16 players, 4 power forwards, and a payroll that continues to rise above the salary cap and luxury tax threshold.  I want him anyway, they can figure out that...

Reader’s Digest Gives Shaquille O’Neal Credit for Aristotle Quote

Doc Rivers‘ favorite quip, whenever a reporter asks him about an injured player’s condition, is “You know ‘Doc’ is just a nickname, right?” Shaquille O’Neal may want to co-opt his former coach’s phrase for his own devices: “You know ‘Big Aristotle’ is just a nickname, right?” Reader’s Digest apparently did not get the memo. In its “Quotable Quotes” section...

Opinion: Bandwagon Boston Celtics fans should be shown the door

Photo courtesy of Dime Magazine BOSTON--  This particular thing has been on my mind lately, so here goes nothing. The Boston Celtics have undergone huge changes this offseason from losing their captain and a “Big Ticket via trade to hiring a new coach that made his mark in the game as one of the brightest young minds in college basketball. When you take two perennial All-Stars...

Six years ago today the Celtics transformed their franchise by acquiring Kevin Garnett

July 31st. The day synonymous with the Major League Baseball trade deadline, where clubs on the fringe of contention look for one final piece that could make them a true championship caliber team. Six years ago, the Celtics took a page from baseball's book and transformed their franchise on July 31st, dealing five players and two first round picks to the Timberwolves for Kevin...

Is it really fair to say Red Auerbach held onto his Big Three too long?

Now that the dust has settled on the remembrance of the late, great Reggie Lewis, one question still remains: did Red Auerbach really hold onto his Big Three too long? It's been a long held belief that Red should have traded Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish while they still had some value to help the Celtics rebuild for their next championship run. The logic seems...

Your Celtics Life Week in Review...8/3/13

Can you hear the dust balls rolling? Not here at CelticsLife! Not when there's plenty of time to talk about the issues we all want to really address. Like, why was Bonzi Wells at the son of Bill Dinwiddie's (I mean Rashid Shabazz!) house trying to kill him? Or was he even there? Will the Celtics bring back Shavlik Randolph? Should they? Also, what's your favorite Game...
