Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the Green Bay Packers made DT B.J. Raji a long-term contract offer worth $8 million per season. According to McGinn, the Packers made the offer “several months” ago. Apparently, Raji and his agent, David Dunn, aren’t convinced that this is the best deal or they most likely would have already reached an agreement. Raji, 27, current makes $5.2 million this season and has another year with a base salary of $2.1325 million remaining on his current deal. McGinn mentions that Raji could look to leverage his impending free agency next year in order to secure a better offer from Green Bay. McGinn spoke to an unnamed NFL personnel director who believes Raji should take the Packers offer. “I would take it if I was him,” the personnel director said. “Why? I’m with an organization I know and love. I’m probably not going to get that good a deal in the open market. My skill set is perfect for that defense. I’m very familiar with the defense.” At $8 million per season, Raji would be among the highest paid players at his position, but a considerably under guys like Ndamukong Suh ($12.7M), Gerald McCoy ($11M) and Geno Atkins ($10.66M). Although Raji has been a pretty good player for the Packers, he’s yet to showcase the kind of ability that these other players have. This could be due to the Packers defensive scheme and their recent strategy of limiting his snaps to keep him fresh, but it’s hard to imagine him securing a long-term contract worth over $10 million annually, even on the open market.   The post Report: Packers Offered DT B.J.
