Found August 07, 2013 on We Should Be GM's:
36 games into his MLB career and Darin Ruf already has a streak of 33 games of reaching base safely. In those 36 games he's hit .316/.994, 19 R, 9 DBL, 1 TRPL, 7 HR, and 17 RBI. It's a small sample size, but it also goes to show that he's one of the few reasons to tune in and stomach watching the Phillies over the final months of the season. I've been rooting for Ruf for about 4 or so years now and am glad he's finally getting a chance. Earlier this season Amaro defended himself for not having Ruf on the roster by stating just because he hit lots of homeruns in the minors, didn't mean that success would translate to the Majors. Well, Amaro is once again proven to be an idiot. Keep proving him wrong Ruf! *Ruf made his first start in right field last night and will likely continue there through the rest of the year (previously played LF and 1B).

With the Phillies’ playoff chances fading fast, Pat and Corey discuss some silver linings in this week’s episode of Phillies Nation TV. Specifically, Cody Asche and Ethan Martin are new guys worth giving a chance in the waning weeks of the season. Also, Cole Hamels has quietly rebounded after a rocky stretch and Domonic Brown is back in the lineup. Ryann brings questions from...

Phillies and Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez hit snag on potential deal

While the Phillies were reported to have signed Cuban pitcher Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez to a contract there has been no official announcement. There may not be one. Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports that the two sides have hit a snag. The Phillies agreed to a six-year deal worth $48 million with the right hander which included an $11 million option for 2019. Since then things have gone...

Storyline: Front Office Decisions of the Philadelphia Phillies

Even after the trading deadline passed without Michael Young in a new uniform, the Philadelphia Phillies still can deal the third baseman through a waiver transaction in August. It’s easy to publish opinions and predictions before the event; however, this piece was my writing sample on July 22 (more in welcome section), when the Phils had a shot to win the division. How close...

Kendrick & Phils Take On Jackson & Cubs In Series Opener; Darin Ruf Playing RF

Off days are becoming more and more enjoyable when you talk about the Phillies. After getting swept by the Braves this past weekend the Phillies keep sinking deeper and deeper into the cellar. 11 games under .500 and God only knows how far back in the division they are, they...

Utley, Phillies agree to extension

Chase Utley is likely staying in Philadelphia for a while. He and the team have agreed on terms for a contract extension.

Phillies 9, Cubs 8

Darin Ruf and Chase Utley sparked a three-run fifth inning to lift the Philadelphia Phillies to a 9-8 win over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night. Utley, who had three hits, drove in the tying run on a triple to deep center field. He soon scored on a Domonic Brown ground out to give the Phillies the lead. Ruf added one more on a solo home run, his fourth of the season. Philadelphia...

Philadelphia Phillies agree to two-year extension with Chase Utley

The days leading up to the trade deadline saw Chase Utley's name featured in trade rumors. But as July 31st came and went, we began to hear less about where Utley could end up, and more about the second baseman working towards an extension with the Philadelphia Phillies. Those whispers came to fruition with a two-year agreement on a new extension between the two sides on...

Brown activated from 15-day DL

The Philadelphia Phillies activated all-star left fielder Domonic Brown from the disabled list on Tuesday. Brown has not played since July 23 because of concussion symptoms. To make room for Brown on the roster, the Phillies designated outfielder Laynce Nix for assignment. The 25-year-old played in a rehabilitation game Monday with Single-A Lakewood and went 3-for-5 with a home...

Glanville Gives Thoughts on Dutch, Schilling, Trade Deadline

Glanville was one of the few reasons to watch the Phillies during the late-90s. (AP) Over the weekend, I got the opportunity to speak with former Phillies outfielder – and current ESPN Baseball Tonight analyst – Doug Glanville. A Phillie from 1998-2002 and again in 2004, Glanville is one of the smartest, freshest minds at ESPN. We discussed several topics from the trade deadline...

Phillies, Utley nearing extension

The Philadelphia Phillies declined to trade second baseman Chase Utley in July preferring to negotiate an extension with him and make him in the words of general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. a “Phillie for life.” Mission nearly accomplished. The Phillies are close to signing Utley to a two-year extension with multiple vesting options according to major-league sources. The total...

Phillies 12, Cubs 1

Ethan Martin earned his first major league win, Cody Asche hit his first home run and the Philadelphia Phillies routed the Chicago Cubs 12-1 Thursday. Asche's two-run drive capped a six-run burst in the fourth inning that made it 10-1. He had three hits and fellow rookie Darin Ruf also homered. Martin (1-1) got more than enough support. He pitched five innings and allowed one...

Phillies Look to Build Off Last Night's Win Behind Cole Hamels Tonight

It's pretty sad that with this team, a four-run lead isn't good enough to breathe easily. Last night the Phillies led the Cubs 9-5 headed into the top of the ninth inning and after Jonathan Papelbon allowed three runs to score (two earned) the Phillies were able to clinch their...

Michael Young clears waivers but not traded

There was a little baseball rumor mill excitement this morning. The news came out that Philadelphia Phillies Michael Young cleared waivers and could now be traded. Following that news the Phillies released their lineups for their afternoon game and Young wasn’t on it. Could Young have been traded that fast? Could a deal be in the works? Nope, false alarm it’s just a day...
