In the early part of this century, which seems like a century ago, Alabama Coach Dennis Francione had a theme for his team: Hold the rope. Although most Crimson Tide fans would now detest anything associated with Francione, who left Bama for Texas A&M, his thought was a good one, that every man had to do his part for his teammates in order to achieve success.

Bama fans race to meet Nick Saban

Alabama Crimson Tide fans are lining up by the hundreds to great their head coach Nick Saban. This event is known tongue and check as “The running of the Gumps”. Saban: All those predictions 'hijack the game'

Here's a prediction: Nick Saban won't like questions about predictions. The Alabama coach says ''they hijack the game'' by putting the focus on the BCS and who will play in the final game each season. The Crimson Tide can't avoid being at the center of some of those predictions as defending national champions and a team projected to compete for another...

Nussmeier fitting in nicely with Alabama offense

Doug Nussmeier isn't charged with fixing a broken offense or scripting an entirely new philosophy for Alabama. The Crimson Tide's new offensive coordinator will still be running the Alabama offense. Says center Barrett Jones: ''There won't be any confusion there.'' Alabama coach Nick Saban says changes to the passing game will help the offense in being...

Nussmeier Goes Before The Media

When Jim McElwain left Alabama to become head coach at Colorado State, one of the early names to surface as McElwain’s replacement as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide was Doug Nussmeier, who had those titles at Washington. A call to our Scout.com affiliate in Seattle resulted in an interesting assessment of Nussmeier.

Not Much Turnout For Open Practice

Although the lone open practice of Alabama fall camp is eagerly anticipated, with each season it is less and less attended. There was room for perhaps another 100,000 in Bryant-Denny Stadium Sunday as the Crimson Tide was out for two hours in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts. The stadium seats 101,821, and a generous estimate of the “crowd” would be under 2,000.

Notebook: Norwood to lead Alabama's receivers

With Alabama head coach Nick Saban and offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier talking about having a balanced attack and airing it out more, that sure puts a smile on receiver Kevin Norwood's face.

No QB battle, but McCarron competing everyday

When fall camp started last year, Alabama didn't know who its starting quarterback would be. This year obviously A.J. McCarron doesn't have to worry about splitting reps as he's the clear No. 1. But despite that pressure off his shoulders, he's still competing just as hard.
