The Saints have cut offensive tackle Justin Smith, coach Sean Payton said Wednesday, according to the club’s official Twitter feed.- ProFootballTalk.com August 21st
Smith was drafted second overall by the Rams in 2009, and will now be looking for his Third team in his fifth NFL sesaon. Smith is still young and showed promise at Baylor before he was drafted. I expect him to be picked up relatively quickly.

The player picked behind Matthew Stafford in the 2009 NFL Draft is out of a job.
The Saints released offensive tackle Jason Smith on Wednesday coach Sean Payton announced. Smith had only been with the team since signing a one-year deal in April.
Smith was expected to contend for the starting left tackle job a job that appears to be going to Charles Brown who's taken the majority...
The New Orleans Saints will travel to Houston to face the Houston Texans in their third, and most important, preseason game. The starters will see work for the majority of the game, and who better to go against than the Super Bowl contending Texans. Here are three matchups to look forward to this week.
1) Charles Brown vs Various Pass Rushers
The Texans tout one...
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees seems poised to have another record-setting season, if training camp performance is any indication.
The face of the franchise is a 7-time Pro-Bowler, the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year in 2004, the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year in 2008 & 2011, as well as the MVP of Super Bowl XLIV.
Brees also holds the NFL single-season...
In an extreme vote of confidence for their two young wideouts, Kenny Stills and Nick Toon, the New Orleans Saints have parted ways with veteran receivers Steve Breaston and Patrick Crayton.
According to WWLTV, New Orleans receiver Marques Colston returned to practice Monday, this is the first time the receiver went through drills since Aug. 8th, the day before the Saints’ preseason opener against Kansas City.
Bryce Harris looked poor in his incredibly short stint on the field last season. Put simply, he wasn't ready, and when he came in to replace an injured right tackle in Charles Brown he didn't perform well against the Raiders. The following week against the 49ers, he started and sustained an injury that would cost him the season on the Saints' opening drive. Easy to think...
Sean Payton is mad. And this makes the Saints dangerous.
Whether they are 10-6-with-a-playoff-win dangerous or Super Bowl dangerous is TBD, dependent on variables not yet in evidence -- such as, how far away from a hot mess this Saints defense travels in a year, and Drew Brees' ability to be Drew Brees-ish yet again.
New Orleans definitely is dangerous, though, in the way teams...
(Eds: With AP Photos.) By BRETT MARTEL AP Sports Writer Between Jonathan Vilma's latest knee surgery and Curtis Lofton's mysterious absence late last week, it's hard to know who might see the most work at inside linebacker in the Saints' new defensive scheme.
Good thing for New Orleans that it appears to have solid depth in that area.

Saints receiver Marques Colston (foot) practiced Monday and Tuesday but admitted he's not 100 percent healthy, according to NOLA.com.Fantasy Spin:"That's OK," Colston said. "I'm working towards it. I still have couple of weeks yet. I'm still taking my time with it." Colston's plantar fasciitis has lingered since last season and caused him to...
The tight end position is looking like it could be one of the most difficult to draft in fantasy football this season. Basically, you have New Orleans Saints stud Jimmy Graham at the top of the list. Underneath Graham, you have everyone else. Rob Gronkowski is as much of a beast as Graham when healthy, […]
When you have led the NFL in passing in four of seven seasons, it's natural that your name would appear near the top of passing yardage odds each season.
Hence, it's perfectly natural to see Drew Brees at 4/1 at online sportsbook Bovada, as they announced their passing yard props, receiving yard props and rushing yard props for 2013.
The New Orleans pivot has surpassed 5...
If you draft a QB like Drew Brees, do you really need to draft another one?
As we head into the third full week of NFL Preseason football, I’ve started to notice a new trend taking place amongst fantasy football drafts: Owners starting off the season with only one quarterback on the roster. While this isn’t something new, I’ve seen this sparingly in the past while answering...
The San Francisco 49ers added quarterback Seneca Wallace to their roster on Thursday.
Wallace, 33, was recently cut by the New Orleans Saints.
The late addition of Wallace does not ensure him of making the 49ers final roster but rather gives the team another option to consider for the job of backing up Colin Kaepernick.
By all accounts, Colt McCoy and Scott Tolzien have struggled...
Why, God, Why?
Reports are surfacing that the 49ers are interested in QB Seneca Wallace and are expecting to visit with the free agent at some point.
Wallace was recently let go by the Saints, just as he was when he played for the Seahawks and the Browns. I’m scratching my head on this one, I know the backup position is really sketchy right now, but Seneca Wallace…really?
