The Timberwolves were my League Pass team in 2012. I watched them as much as any team besides the Knicks and Heat. Everyone has a team like that; a group of guys you like for reasons beyond their talent. In the case of Minnesota, I fell in love with their passing.
Kevin Love trails only Marc Gasol as the league’s best passing big man. For all we know Ricky Rubio already tops the list of point guards, and Rick Adelman’s system is so conducive to that specific type of player that Wolves games often morphed into instructional videos on team basketball.
It was refreshing. Even if passing has made a comeback since the dog days of the mid 2000’s (when Kobe, Wade, Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady and Allen Iverson joined forces to turn NBA Arenas into playgrounds), you still rarely see the kind movement in an offense that made Minnesota so special. The best part? It was only supposed to get better. Kevin Love was 22. Rubio was 20. The pups needed only another year or two to grow into full-fle...
BEST OF MAXIM
MINNEAPOLIS -- It does seem risky, paying an injury-prone big man 60 million over five years.
That's the reported figures for recently signed Timberwolves center Nikola Pekovic, who in three NBA seasons has never played more than 65 games. A hurt calf here and an abdominal strain there kept him out of 17 contests last season.
And to think Pek had the best fortunes of Minnesota...
MINNEAPOLIS -- The paradigm has shifted for Corey Brewer.
Long gone are the days when merely stepping on an NBA floor represented the ultimate objective. Extended seasons won't suffice, either -- he's had three of those since leaving Minnesota via a trade.
Only another title will whet his appetite, honed in 2011 -- the teeter-totter year he went from Twin Cities washout...
Shabazz Muhammad was the top rated prospect out of high school, but he didn’t live up to expectations during his lone season at UCLA. Ben McLemore wasn’t rated nearly as high heading to KU, but ended up being selected seven spots ahead of Muhammad.
McLemore came out of nowhere to most. He broke the freshmen record for most points in a season at Kansas.
McLemore and Muhammad had...
New Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Flip Saunders has been on the job now nearly four months during which he has reshaped the roster by signing Nikola Pekovic Kevin Martin Chase Budinger Corey Brewer and Ronny Turiaf to guaranteed contracts worth nearly $120 million. After finalizing a five-year $60 million deal with Pekovic on Friday Saunders discussed a busy summer...
When the Minnesota Timberwolves lost Andrei Kirilenko to Brooklyn, they found themselves in desperate need of a solid perimeter defender.
Corey Brewer says he's ready to fill that role. But he's also confident that he returns to Minnesota a much more accomplished player on the other end of the floor.
Brewer says he's worked hard to refine his offensive game. He turned...
You might remember a few years ago when Ronny Turiaf served as the hype man for Kobe’s fake viral video that featured him jumping over a speeding Aston Martin. Now, Turiaf has a video of his own…and it features the veteran NBA big man jumping over a monster truck.
It’s pretty clear some of these dudes just have way too much free time on their hands. A+ celebration game though...

Minnesota Timberwolves: What Every Backup MUST Work On
By Mike Elworth: Owner and Publisher/Hoopstuff..
PG: JJ Barea- Efficiency
- With Luke Ridnour gone, the backup point guard spot is now Barea’s alone and he is already a solid distributor and is an excellent offensive player, but he has always been inefficient. His 34.6% three point shooting is nice, but he must do better than...
LEAPS AND BOUNDS
Thanks to the fine folks over at ESPN Sportsnation, NBA player Ronny Turiaf got a chance to spoof Kobe Bryant’s infamous jump over an Aston Martin with this hilarious clip. In this video, Turiaf says he’s going to jump over a monster truck and well, I’ll let the video do the rest of the talking:
Back in 2008, Kobe Bryant and then-teamamte Ronny Turiaf made a viral video to promote the Black Mamba’s new shoes. In the video, Kobe jumps over a speeding Aston Martin.
Today, Turiaf and SportsNation teamed up to make a video of their own, except Ronny jumps over a “monster truck” instead.
Jordan Farmar loved the video, and even sent a tweet to Kobe with the link to clip...
MINNEAPOLIS -- Maya Moore and friends didn't just revert back Sunday night to the form that once had them sprinting away from the rest of the WNBA.
The Minnesota Lynx and their MVP candidate had a former NBA star and colleague of their leader fuming, possibly to the point of regret, depending on the fallout -- if any -- from his postgame comments.
Maybe it was his team'...
We caught up with NBA power forward Ronny Turiaf as he came out to RFA 9 last weekend to support “King” Kevin Casey, who earned the victory via unanimous decision.
Flip Saunders credits his year working in the media realm for helping him transition from a head coach to president of basketball operations for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
"People talk about the importance of the agents and how they can dictate things; I believe my year with ESPN helped me tremendously in dealing with media and even agents," said Saunders. "You understand...
