Bobby Jackson was fine all day long.
He talked to former teammates, coaches, friends and family, and managed to not get emotional. But when he stood at the Arco Arena podium to formally announce his retirement in front of so many familiar faces, he couldn't hold back.
Jackson's goodbye became a tearful one as he discussed his late mother, Sarah, who died of cancer in 2003, and reminisced about his 12-year career. Jackson will work in varied capacities with the organization in a position titled "ambassador," with much of his focus on community outreach to help with ticket sales and plans for him to work on the team's scouting staff.
He joined the Kings' push to regain the area's support even before his new role was formalized, becoming a member of the committee attempting to sell out the Kings' first two home games Nov. 2 (vs. Memphis) and Nov. 4 (vs. Atlanta).
