This past week a picture of several Indianapolis Colts fans in Andrew Luck jerseys began to circulate around the internet. As we chronicled last week, the Colts were on their way to being manhandled by the Titans, while the Rams surprised the Saints for their first win of the season. This left the Colts and Dolphins as the only winless teams in the NFL.

At the time, I (like others) wagered the Dolphins had the harder road ahead of them (even though they had almost knocked off the Giants). This put them in the driver's seat for the number one overall pick, which most experts think will be used to take Stanford's Andrew Luck.

This weekend, Luck had a pretty good outing, throwing for three touchdowns against the Beavers but racking up only 200 yards. The Cardinals extended their winning streak to 17, continue to lead the Pac-12 and Stanford (at 9-0) remains solidly in the top 5 of the BCS rankings. At this point, only Oregon and Oklahoma State (who needs to lose) stand between Andrew Luck and the National Title game.

In turn, the Miami Dolphins absolutely dominated the Kansas City Chiefs, who had a streak of their own going. Matt Moore threw for three touchdowns and nearly 250 yards and looked in complete control. After falling behind 3-0, the Dolphins scored 31 unanswered to easily win their first of the season. Leaving the Colts as the only winless team in the NFL through Week 9.

Peyton Manning, the one-time indestructible leader of the Colts and maybe feeling the Suck-for-Luck intensity growing in Indianapolis, stated this week that he would like to play again next season. But at season's start in 2012, Manning will be 36 and in his 15th NFL season and, most importantly, returning from major surgeries with a year's worth of rust. If the Colts do indeed end up with the #1 pick, you have to think they'll be tempted to take Luck. If not for 2012, at least for the future.

It's crazy to think that Peyton Manning could go being from possibly the best QB in the league to "out to pasture" so quickly. But it's looking more and more possible every week. At some point, the Colts will basically need to consider: just two seasons removed from a near-perfect record, would they be best served by not winning another game again this year?
