The New York Mets have had great success with Matt Harvey since he came up last year.  He has really kicked it into high gear to start this season and has become a phenom.  Zack Wheeler is in AAA Las Vegas struggling but most people rate him higher then they do Harvey.  Harvey also didn’t have great numbers in AAA before he got promoted and look how that turned out.  I think there are a couple of things going on with Wheeler. I think Wheeler is really, really talented and kind of bored being in AAA.  I know it shouldn’t be this way but these players to get like that.  I also think it is a very hitter friendly league and also ballpark which doesn’t help him.  The Mets aren’t projected to go anywhere this year and they haven’t gotten off to a very good start.  They are in danger of falling out of it quickly and not even having a meaningful second half o the season. The Mets have the future though to look too and their fans are very much about that.  Why don’t the Mets call up Wheeler ...

Wheeler Delivers Second Solid Start In A Row

Top Mets pitching prospect Zack Wheeler followed up a solid start last week with an even better one today as the Las Vegas 51s beat the Sacramento River Cats 6-2. Wheeler tossed six scoreless innings and allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out four. What stood out was that he tossed 90 pitches (55 strikes, 36 balls) and left the game looking he had plenty left in...

On patience and Zack Wheeler

Mets prized right-handed pitching prospect Zack Wheeler has had some trouble early this season. Wheeler is currently pitching at Triple-A Las Vegas and it’s a bit of a concern to see the Mets prospect struggle at the level that supposed to get him ready for the Majors. However, just because he’s had a bad start to the season doesn’t mean he’s going to be a bust. Wheeler...

Wheeler Getting Into Midseason Form As Las Vegas 51s Edge River Cats 6-2

Las Vegas 6, Sacramento 2 Zack Wheeler took the hill yesterday afternoon against the River Cats and was firing on all cylinders as he made quick work of Sacramento, cruising to his second victory on the season. Wheeler took the mound looking to build off of his solid outing against the Reno Aces in which he struck out eight over 6 2/3 innings back on April 30th. This time, the...

Harvey and Wheeler: One Ace Showing, Another One In The Hole

Blue chip pitching prospects are professional sports’ most delicate flower. Except, unlike a flower, no scientifically proven method has been established regarding proper cultivation. There’s no “right” way to bring a teenager up through an organization’s system while still absolutely maximizing his production at the major league level. And in the back of everyone’s mind...

Today’s Postponement Gives Harvey Seven Days Of Rest Between Starts

Because today’s game between the Mets and Braves was postponed due to rain, and the decision was made not to have a doubleheader on Sunday, right-hander Matt Harvey will now have seven full days of rest in between starts. Harvey was originally scheduled to pitch tomorrow’s game on Sunday, but Jon Niese who was today’s scheduled starter, will pitch tomorrow’s contest instead...

Mets Dig Deep, Find Logan Taylor

The Mets’ farm system rates in the top third of baseball due to a plethora of pitching prospects. In addition to Zack Wheeler, Rafael Montero and Cory Mazzoni in the upper minors, the organization’s Florida State League affiliate has the minor leagues’ best rotation. It features Noah Syndergaard, Domingo Tapia, Luis Mateo (who is on the disabled list with an elbow injury),...

Moving Forward: Mets’ Arms Surplus and Possible Trade Targets

By now we are all aware of the tantalizing conga line of pitching prospects dancing their way up the ladder to Flushing. The litany of names is familiar: Zack Wheeler, Noah Syndergaard, Rafael Montero, Luis Mateo, Steven Matz, Michael Fulmer, Hansel Robles, Jacob deGrom, Jack Leathersich, Domingo Tapia, et al. It is only natural to consider how some of this apparent surplus of talent...

White Sox-Mets Preview

After rallying late to avoid a sweep, the Chicago White Sox have perhaps a little momentum heading into the final stop on their eight-game trip. The White Sox, though, will have to face the red-hot and well-rested Matt Harvey when they visit the New York Mets for the first time Tuesday night. After winning two of three in Texas, Chicago appeared to be headed for three straight...

MMO Player of the Week: Wright Pulls Off The Hat-Trick!

DAVID WRIGHT, 3B MMO PLAYER OF THE WEEK David Wright copped his third MMO Player of the Week honor after what may have been his most productive week of the season. The feisty third baseman had a few run-ins the umps this past week which is something we don’t see too much of from him, but it’s what a player does in the box score that matters most for this weekly staple at MMO...
