Found November 01, 2012 on Louisville Card Game: Yardbarker Blogger Network
With Tom Jurich at his side, Rick Pitino spoke several minutes during his press conference the other day about what a special place the University of Louisville is to coach basketball. On and on he went, concluding that he wouldn’t want to coach anywhere else but Louisville. At that point, retired TV sportscaster Bob Domine interjected, “Can you two take this act down the block and talk to Charlie?” Charlie Strong, of course, the object of speculation for nearly every SEC coaching vacancy needing to be filled during the off season. Jurich paused reflectively, “I think Charlie gets it, I really do. Deep down in my heart, I think Charlie gets it. I really do. He’s wise.” Unfortunately, the next question was about the terms of Pitino’s new five-year contract, depriving UofL fans of further elaboration from Jurich. Admittedly, there wasn’t much more he could have said because only Charlie Strong can decide what’s best for him and his family. Jurich has said he would match any offer and ...

Cards are 8-0 with some strong leadership

University of Louisville football coach Charlie Strong talked about leaders on Monday, saying he created a leadership committee of players. Cardinal Authority was there and has all the details on how it has helped the undefeated Cardinals.

Cards Need Serious Improvement In Kickoff Coverage

Although Charlie Strong and the Louisville Cardinals have yet to lose a game this season, it hasn’t been pretty every step of the way. A few of the eight wins on the season have been ugly, which is fine by me. Beating certain teams in a more convincing fashion would’ve helped Louisville’s overall perception, but I suppose it doesn’t matter much when they’re No. 10...

Louisville gives Rick Pitino 5-year extension

Louisville has given Rick Pitino a five-year contract extension that will keep the coach with the Cardinals through the 2021-22 season. His $3.9 million base salary remains the same, but he will earn a $600,000 retention bonus every other year from 2014 to 2022. The deal includes incentives for being chosen AP national coach of the year ($100,000) and winning the Big East Conference...

Rick Pitino's favorite rapper is Pitbull...seriously

In this crazy day and age, it seems that college basketball coaches have been keeping up with the latest music. A couple of weeks ago, University of Louisville head basketball coach Rick Pitino commented during the Cardinals' basketball tip-off luncheon that he listens to rapper Pitbull in his car during his morning commute: “Pitbull’s my favorite,” Pitino told his...

Big East glass could be half-full for Marquette

As Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino sat with reporters at Big East media day in October, a man never at a loss for words spared more than a few to point out that his conference was going to be just fine. Though the 35 NCAA Tournament appearances, 20 Sweet 16 berths and 15 conference championships owned by Syracuse are headed to the Atlantic Coast Conference, Pitino said Memphis...

Rick Pitino adds five more years to contract

Tom Jurich has that familar smile that he wears when he has made another significant accomplishment for the University of Louisville athletic department after signing Rick Pitino to another five-year contract extension as UofL basketball coach, extending his contract to 2022. “There’s only a handful of coaches out there in coach’s caliber,” he said. “This contract will...

Fashion note: Louisville football

More than a few fans lobbied for a Black Out in the days leading up to the University of Louisville-Cincinnati football game last week. That was never going to happen. The team doesn’t have any black uniforms this season. The last time UofL donned all black uniforms was in a 17-10 loss against West Virginia during the 2010 season, and that was enough for Coach Charlie Strong who...

Temple-Louisville Preview

Louisville has continued its ascension up the BCS standings and is the Big East's last unbeaten team, but it's made a habit of living dangerously throughout the season. The 12th-ranked Cardinals hope things get a little easier Saturday as they look to move to 9-0 for the first time in school history with a win over a visiting Temple squad coming off back-to-back blowout...

A new version of Russdiculous?
