Infielder Eduardo Escobar wasn't thrilled to be traded to the Minnesota Twins. In fact, when Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura told him in July he was part of a deadline deal for Francisco Liriano, Escobar said Tuesday, "I felt so sad and started crying.

"I didn't know what was going to happen next."

Escobar went 2-for-4 with a walk and three RBI in his Twins debut Tuesday, an 18-9 victory against his old team at U.S. Cellular Field.

Using new teammate Alexi Casilla as his interpreter, Escobar met Twins beat reporters before the game after being officially recalled by his new club.

"This is a little hard because I played all my career with the White Sox and I appreciate a lot the opportunity they gave me to play in the big leagues," he said. "But I appreciate being here, too; they've given me another opportunity here."

At the time of the trade, Escobar, 23, had played 36 games with the White Sox, hitting .207 with three RBI. The Twins sent him straight to Class AAA Rochester upon completing the deal that also sent left-hander Pedro Hernandez to Minnesota on July 28.

"I felt a little bit disappointed because I wanted to be here; I was in the big leagues," he said. "But I understood I had to go back to Triple-A and do the things I do to get back to the big leagues."

He hit .217 with three doubles, three triples and nine RBI in 35 games with Red Wings before being recalled Tuesday. Between the White Sox and Rochester, he played third, second, short and left field. Escobar started at shortstop Tuesday. As for his preferred defensive position, he vows not to have one. He just wants to play in the major leagues.

"My natural position is shortstop; I feel comfortable at short," he said. "But I've been playing all positions; when I got back to Triple-A, I was playing third base. When you want to play, you play anywhere."
