Plate umpire Kerwin Danley was hit on the facemask by a deflected pitch on Monday night and left a game between the Colorado Rockies and Cincinnati Reds one inning later. Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood threw a pitch in the bottom of the first inning that bounced in the dirt, deflected off the mitt of catcher Wilin Rosario and hit Danley's mask. He was dazed for a couple of minutes, holding his nose and blinking while talking to a trainer. Danley stayed in the game for one more inning. He talked to a trainer after the second inning and left the field. Lance Barksdale, who was at first base, moved behind the plate following a nine-minute delay so he could change equipment. Danley has suffered several head injuries during his 16-year career. In 2008, he was knocked unconscious when Dodgers catcher Russell Martin missed a pitch by Brad Penny, allowing the ball to hit Danley on the jaw. He missed more than a month. A year later, he was taken off the field in Toronto on a stretcher after the barrel of Hank Blalock's broken bat hit him flush on the mask. He was released from a hospital the next day. Danley worked the AL playoffs last season. He was a college baseball teammate of Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn. --- Follow Joe Kay on Twitter: http://twitter.com/apjoekay

Rockies' Tyler Chatwood leaves game with triceps injury

Starting just his sixth game of the season, Tyler Chatwood was only able to make it through four innings before leaving.  He wasn't being roughed up too badly by the Cincinnati Reds.  Instead, Chatwood suffered an apparent injury to his arm.  It was later confirmed to be his triceps. Rockies RHP Tyler Chatwood left tonight's game with right triceps soreness. And...

Frazier finding his way out of slump

CINCINNATI Around the Redsland environs fans call Todd Frazier the Toddfather, a fitting description for the New Jersey native with the east coast twang and the penchant for Frank Sinatra music. There are no family mafia connections, he says with a laugh, other than he and his relatives loved watching The Sopranos. And he knows nothing about dead horse heads in beds. What he does...

Rockies rally to beat Reds 5-4

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Troy Tulowitzki hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning -- a call changed after the umpires initially ruled fan interference -- and the Colorado Rockies held on for a 5-4 victory Tuesday night that ended their streak of six consecutive losses to the Cincinnati Reds. A fan with a glove in left field reached and grabbed Tulowitzki's fly ball off Sam LeCure ...

LeCure's scoreless streak ends in loss

CINCINNATI Sam LeCure has been on a roll this season for the Reds. Its not out of whack to give the right-handed reliever serious consideration as an All-Star even if hes not in the glamour set of closers. Tuesday night was a bad night for LeCure and it showed how fickle the baseball gods can be. LeCure gave up a two-run home run to Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki with two...

Errant Aroldis Chapman Fastball Can Be Yours!

Lotsa love going around for Nick Swisher as the Cleveland Indians first baseman made his return visit to Yankees Stadium.  Unfortunately, that wasn't the case when the Tribe squared off against the Cincinnati Reds recently.  On Memorial Day, Aroldis Chapman unleashed a 100-mph fastball over the head of Swisher. Your browser does not support iframes. And now...that...

Rockies-Reds Preview

The Cincinnati Reds may be thrilled to return home, and a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies may only improve their mood. An injury to Brandon Phillips, however, isn't helping.
