For the rubber match against the Tampa Bay Rays the Los Angeles Angels sent out Jason Vargas who has struggled a bit in his last two starts since coming back from the DL. Meanwhile the Rays sent out Jake Odorizzi for only his six career start. Like much of the series the story of the game revolved around the pitching. The Angels managed only 6 hits and 2 runs against the the Rays pitching but in the end it proved to be enough. That’s because Jason Vargas pitched an absolute gem going 7 strong innings and allowing just 2 hits while striking out 7.
