Maybe it was the late arrival into Tampa, FL. Maybe it was the 12 p.m. start. Whatever it was, the UConn Huskies women's basketball team got off to a slow start. But once they heated up, the South Florida Bulls had no chance. Behind the high scoring duo of Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Stefanie Dolson, UConn cruised to an easy 85-51 win over South Florida in front of 5,358 on USF's Senior Day at the Sun Dome in Tampa, FL. The Huskies improve to 27-2 (14-1 Big East) while the Bulls fall to 19-9 (8-7). KML had a career-high 32 points, including 24 in the first half, while pulling down six rebounds and adding three assists and three steals. Dolson added a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds. No other Husky was in double figures. The next highest scorers for the Huskies were Kiah Stokes and Morgan Tuck with six points. Stokes also had three blocked shots. Inga Orekhova led the Bulls with 13 points despite shooting 4-of-14 and had six rebounds. Alisia Jenkins had 10 points and six rebounds while Andrea Smith had 10 points. Akila McDonald led them with seven rebounds to go along with her two points. UConn trailed 4-2 early on before going on a 13-0 run but USF battled back with a 7-0 run to cut the lead down to two at 15-13. The Huskies followed with 6-0 run before the Bulls rallied back again with a 7-2 run. USF wouldn't get closer than 23-20 though the rest of the way as KML and Dolson went off with their scoring and outscored the Bulls 28-11 the rest of the half. They would get no closer than 17 points in the second half. While KML and Dolson were great and Kelly Faris playing okay, the rest of the supporting cast not so much. Breanna Stewart looked like she regressed after turning it on as of late. Bria Hartley, an All-American last year, can't hit the broad side of a barn and isn't looking for her shot. Caroline Doty is struggling. Tuck and Stokes weren't bad. I only say this because the Huskies have a big game coming up. And they're going to need a complete team effort. That big game is for the Big East regular season championship on Monday night in South Bend, IN against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
