Found December 17, 2013 on The Detroit Sports Site:
The injury-depleted Detroit Red Wings lost another body Tuesday when defenseman Kyle Quincey was given a five-minute major and game misconduct for boarding Anaheim’s Ryan Getzlaf. The two players were chasing a puck into the corner when Quincey shoved Getzlaf in the back, sending him tumbling face-first into the boards. Getzlaf left the ice bleeding, though he did return early in the second period Quincey, meanwhile, might face some supplemental discipline for the hit — the NHL (despite what Jared Cowan’s hit on Pavel Datsyuk taught us) is trying to crack down on dangerous checks like the one Quincey delivered.

Ducks’ Ryan Getzlaf drilled into the boards by Wings’ Kyle Quincey (VIDEO)

YouTube Ryan Getzlaf almost became a human bobblehead after Kyle Quincey checked him from behind into the boards Tuesday night.  During the first period of Ducks-Red Wings game, Getzlaf chased a puck in the corner, closely followed by Quincey.  With a gentle shove, Getzlaf went flying into the dasher boards with his neck snapping back like a crash-test dummy. Quincey was sent to...

Wings goalie Howard hopes to be back for Winter Classic

The Detroit Red Wings, losing both games and players in advance of the Winter Classic on New Year's Day, are in desperate need of good news. Monday afternoon brought one encouraging bulletin, less than 24 hours after the team's fifth consecutive defeat: Jimmy Howard, their No. 1 goaltender, pronounced himself ahead of schedule in recovering from a knee sprain initially expected...

Slumping Wings practice at Comerica Park

DETROIT -- After the Red Wings had finished their public practice on the outdoor rink at Comerica Park, Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk summed up the weather conditions and the recent fortunes of his hockey team. No sun in Detroit; theres no sunny days, Datsyuk said Wednesday. Maybe, if we start winning, it will be sunny. Datsyuk tried to joke and remain positive, but the overall...

Detroit Red Wings weekly: 3rd period breakdowns

The Detroit Red Wings (15-11-9) are struggling. There is no other way to phrase it. Players are dropping like flies and the team has lost five straight games. These aren’t the Red Wings we are accustomed to seeing. The silver lining is that the Wings still occupy a wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference with a 5 point cushion over the 9th place Ottawa Senators. So with that optimistic...

Awwww… Petr Mrazek’s Winter Classic pads are too cute!

Former NHLer and Metro Detroit native Brent Johnson tweeted out a picture of what will apparently be Red Wings/Griffins goaltender Petr Mrazek’s pads for the upcoming Winter Classic. And instead of trying to intimidate the opposition, Mrazek is looking to steal the hearts of which ever team (Maple Leafs or Marlies) he plays. https://twitter.com/JohnnyGoalie12/status/412004302987595776...

Video: Tomas Jurco Scores First NHL Goal

Tomas Jurco provided a little bit of a silver lining in what quickly became another horrible night for the Detroit Red Wings. Playing in just his second game of the season and the third of his career, Jurco lit the lamp early against the Anaheim Ducks — thanks to a pretty feed by Drew Miller.

Steve Palumbo: Teemu Selanne Ends Drought in Ducks Win!

The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 on Sunday night at the Honda Center. The win improved the Ducks to 23-7-5 on the season and extended their Pacific Division lead to three points over the Los Angeles Kings. BUT.....that is not the real story... The real story developed the moment Teemu Selanne scored just his fourth goal of the season in the second period,...

Ducks Silfverberg Returns

The Anaheim Ducks welcomed back Jakob Silfverberg on Tuesday night after Silfverberg missed 24 games this season. Silfverberg (who was traded to the Ducks from the Senators for Bobby Ryan) missed the games after breaking a bone in his wrist from a slash by ex teammate Jared Cowen. During Silfverberg's return he scored a goal and played just under thirteen minutes. So far this...

You Don’t Know Jacke About Silfverberg

When the Ducks dealt Bobby Ryan to the Senators everyone wondered just what they were getting back in Jakob Silfverberg (1 G, 3 SOG, +1), the key player in the deal for the Ducks. Well, if last night’s return to action after missing 24 games with a broken hand is any indication, they might have something special. Jacke (swedish nickname for Jakob, just an FYI) scored a goal and...

Red Wings' Gustav Nyquist day-to-day with groin injury, causing more line shuffling for tonight's game

Another day, another injury for the Detroit Red Wings. A sore groin will force forward Gustav Nyquist to miss tonight’s game against the Anaheim Ducks at Joe Louis Arena (7:30, Fox Sports Detroit). These type of injuries usually linger for a week or more, but Nyquist doesn’t believe it’s that significant. He said he feels better since it happened Sunday against Tampa...

Kyle Quincey, Tom Wilson prove that deterrents to dangerous hits don't exist

Pictured above is the result of stupidity. Not a sudden rage, but pre-meditated stupidity. Tom Wilson of the Washington Capitals lined Flyers forward Brayden Schenn up in his sites and steamrolled him into a boards that'd make a 12 year old playing NHL 14 proud: There's no room for that in the game. None. Wilson'll probably get a lengthy suspension, especially since...
