A timeout was called during Saturday's college football game at North Carolina when Virginia Tech wide receiver Dyrell Roberts found a pair of scissors on the field as he was lining up for an offensive play.
Roberts found the scissors on the 43 yard line in the middle of the field, right on the UNC trademark logo. After waving it around for a few seconds, Roberts finally got the attention of the officials, and they called time so that he could get the scissors off the field.
Scissors are not something you would expect to see on the football field, ever. Give Roberts credit for being alert and possibly saving himself, or another player, from serious injury.

You can file this under something you don’t see every day. Virginia Tech’s Dyrell Roberts was trying frantically to get the referees attention to try and get the play stopped so the scissors could be removed from the field of play before running their next play against North Carolina.I wonder how long the scissors had been there, and how they got there, since they weren’t...
Why was there a pair of scissors on the football field? Well, that’s a fantastic question we’ll probably never get an answer to, but this scenario happened during the Virginia Tech-UNC game. Virginia Tech’s Dyrell Roberts stopped the game and handed them off to the sideline, and oh my goodness that could have been bad. [...]
We knew you could find all sorts of things when combing an athletic field — old cell phone, french horn … Andre Dawson — but a pair of scissors? What? That’s what Virginia Tech wide receiver Dyrell Roberts spotted on the field during the Hokies game against North Carolina on Saturday. How the scissors got there is anyone’s best guess. It probably came from the grounds crew...
North Carolina finally figured out a way to beat Virginia Tech, doing it in impressive fashion.
So far, 2012 has not gone according to plan for Virginia Tech. The Hokies have lost three out of their last four games, including Saturday's 48-34...
Five years ago, J.T. Thompson was going toe-to-toe with some of the best teams and some of the best players the country had to offer. He matched up with the likes of Tyler Hansbrough, Kyle Singler, and J.J. Hickson, and was on track to becoming one of the better sixth men in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
He was a member of Seth Greenberg’s Virginia Tech Hokies then and while...
As we approach the halfway point of the season, both UNC and Virginia Tech enter this match-up having both followed rather enigmatic paths to get here. UNC is 3-2 having outscored their opponents 153-6 at home. The two losses, both on the road and without Giovani Bernard, included poorly played first halves and suspect moments from the defense. Virginia Tech on the other hand has...
