A record-setting season for the Texas Rangers wasn't enough for manager Ron Washington to earn manager of the year honors in the American League.Washington, who finished second in the voting last year, was third this season in voting by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Tampa Bays Joe Maddon won the award and Detroits Jim Leyland finished second. The Rangers knocked out both Maddons Rays and Leylands Tigers on their way to a second-consecutive trip to the World Series.Maddon finished with 133 points and had 26 of the 28 first-place votes. Leyland and Washington each received one first-place vote. Leyland had 54 points and Washington finished with 31. The Texas manager received seven second-place votes and five third-place votes.Texas set a club record with 96 victories in 2011 and did so despite injuries to Josh Hamilton and Adrian Beltre that kept each of the All-Stars out of the lineup for more than a month each.Texas also opened the season with two new starting rotatio...
