LOS ANGELES Wells Fargo & Company, one of Americas leading community banks, announced Friday it is teaming up with FOX Sports West, Partnership for Los Angeles Schools and the Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings to donate 1,000 for every goal scored by the Kings in the 2013 season, to raise awareness and support technology in classrooms. Thanks to Wells Fargo and Fox Sports West, the excitement of Kings Hockey has been merged with improving education for some of Los Angeles' neediest students, said Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. This blend of philanthropy and sports will ultimately bring new technologies and online learning to the students at the Partnership for LA Schools. This is an exciting moment for LAs kids and sports fans alike. Funds raised will help bring technology to the Partnerships nearly 16,000 students in 22 schools, providing them a digital learning experience. One of the Partnerships core instructional strategies is implementing online learning programs to support teachers who need to reach students of varying levels within the same classroom. Through this approach, the Partnership seeks to improve student outcomes in Math, English and in the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) through the use of various software programs. As the United States continues to compete in a global, 21st century economy, we have to make sure our kids have access to the tools necessary to compete, said John Sotoodeh, Wells Fargos Community Banking regional president. As Los Angeles top corporate philanthropist, we support education through both philanthropic giving and team member volunteerism, and this partnership is a great way to help build awareness for a worthy cause. "We are thrilled to be collaborating with Wells Fargo, the Partnership for LA Schools and the Kings to help raise funds for technology based learning," said Steve Simpson, senior vice president and general manager, FOX Sports West and Prime Ticket. "As FOX Sports West continues its mission to assist local schools, it's these generous contributions that will help to further support the youth of our community." About the Partnership The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools strives to uplift children in the citys poorest communities by transforming their local public school into a safe and secure place of opportunity, achievement and discovery. In terms of students served, the Partnership is one of the largest school turnaround organizations in the nation, providing a range of supports to its nearly 16,000 students. Founded in 2007 as the cornerstone of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosas strategy to improve public education in Los Angeles, the Partnership is a unique collaboration between the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Unified School District to turn around LAs lowest performing schools and to create a model for doing so district wide. The Partnership today manages 22 schools with approximately 1,300 school-site employees. The Partnership is a 501(c) 3 non-profit education management organization with nearly 40 full-time employees.
