Coming in to their game Friday night, the Detroit Red Wings had been held scoreless in the first period of all six games of the season. So it was like “playing with house money” as they finally got off to a strong start against the rival St. Louis Blues. Behind the recently named captain Henrik Zetterberg’s two goals in the first 9 minutes, eventually sealing the hat trick on an athletic empty-net, short-handed goal in the game’s final minute to secure the Wings 5-3 win to inch closer to the formerly 6-1 Blues.
