The chance at playing in the NCAA Tournament may be gone, but Canisius will be taking part in postseason play for the first time in 17 years.
The school announced Wednesday that they have accepted a big into the College Insider Tournament (CIT) and will host a first round game on Wednesday March 20, against an opponent not yet determined.
It will be the first postseason game the program will play in since they made the NCAA Tournament back in 1996.
The Griffs lost in the quarterfinals of the MAAC Tournament last weekend, falling to Iona 89-85. They finished the regular season 18-12 and 11-7 in conference under first year head coach Jim Baron.
The 18 overall wins are the most in program history since the 2000-2001 season and the 11 conference wins, a 10-win improvement from last year, are the most since 1998-1999.
