You’ve read the recap, now let’s dig into the box score a little. Ben Brust and Traevon Jackson led the game in rebounds. This got brought up last night, but is worth mentioning again. When the top two rebounders in the entire game are guards, that can mean a couple of things. First, it shows that the guards aren’t afraid to get physical, but it also shows that your big guys need to get a little more physical. In the end, though, guards getting rebounds is a good thing to see. Nigel Hayes shooting 4-7. He looked good and the box score showed it. He’s not going to get a lot of shot attempts, but the ones he gets will be high percentage. If he can start chipping in 5-10 points a game already, he could become a difference maker come B1G conference play. 57% from the foul line in the second half. That’s also the overall percentage as the Badgers didn’t shoot a free-throw in the first half. Friday was great from the foul line, but a couple more makes towards the end of the game make it a little less nerve wracking. This cost the Badgers a couple games last year, and with a guard oriented offense, it should be a strength this season. Florida scored 20 points off turnovers. This is a high number for a Wisconsin team that doesn’t turn the ball over very often. The Badgers turned the ball over 14 times last night, which shows that the Gators took advantage of nearly all of them. Regardless, I’m sure Bo Ryan would like both of those numbers down considerably. George Marshall only played three minutes. With the depth at the guard position this seemed likely, but now it’s more certain. What I want to watch for as the year goes on is if Bronson Koenig starts to get minutes. There should be a few games after the Marquette game to get everyone some minutes to see how they play together. Next up on the docket is a trip to Green Bay that didn’t end too well last time.
