On June 5th the Carolina Tar Heels leading scorer, P.J. Hairston was arrested for marijuana possession after being found with drugs at a traffic stop. A day later, details emerged that a gun was also discarded from the vehicle Hairston was driving shortly before the traffic stop. Things got even worse for UNC’s star guard when it was discovered that Hadyn Thomas; a convicted felon lives at the same address as the woman who rented the car Hairston was driving.   Perhaps most interesting is the fact that Thomas denies having any sort of relationship with Hairston whatsoever. Earlier this month he told USA Today “I don’t know P.J. Hairston, I know Miykael, his friend. I don’t know anyone at Carolina. I don’t even like the Carolina team. Look at the age disparity between me and those boys. I could be their father.”   Despite Thomas’ fervent denial of having a relationship with Hairston or the Carolina basketball team, more questions surely must, and will be asked in connection with Hairston and Thomas.   It’s important to note that earlier this summer the NCAA began investigating Hairston’s relationship with another questionable character in Rodney Blackstock. Blackstock had been previously known for allegedly paying former Kansas star; Ben Mclemore’s AAU coach $10,000 dollars to persuade the guard to sign with a particular agent. If the NCAA decides to investigate into Hairston again it may only be a matter of time before UNC’s leading scorer is found in violation of NCAA rules.   Without jumping to conclusions, the idea that Thomas doesn’t know Hairston at all even though Hairston was driving a car rented in his name sounds implausible to say the least. The NCAA has made it clear in the past that they do not tolerate being lied to, so Mr. Hairston will want to have his stories straight when the NCAA inevitably comes knocking. n
