Last night two of the NBA’s top prospects squared off as Duke’s Jabari Parker and Kansas’ Andrew Wiggins went toe-to-toe in an epic Championship Classic NCAA matchup. Parker and Wiggins battled all night as Kansas edged Duke in a 94-83 win. Parker was unbelievable in the first half putting up an impressive 19 points. He gave the reported 80 NBA scouts in attendance everything they wanted to see as he finished the game with 27 points and 9 rebounds. “It’s all good, newspapers say that I’m back, but it doesn’t matter if you don’t get the victory,” Parker said. “That’s what we wanted at the end of the day.” “They just wanted it more,” he continued. “Just have to praise them for out-playing us in the second half. Me, I need to just get a little more experience and be hungry to learn. I got a long way to go.” Despite Parker’s outstanding play, number one ranked prospect Andrew Wiggins was just too much to handle in the second half leading Kansas to victory. Wiggins finished with 22 points and 8 rebounds after putting up only 6 points in the first half . Wiggins hit a beautiful step-back jump shot and had an explosive dunk in the final two minutes to seal the deal for the Jayhawks. “It was fun,” said Wiggins. “It was nerve-wracking at first. I was sweating a lot. Once the ball tipped off, I was good, I played with a lot of confidence. Times like these are fun.” The Jayhawks were able to get the victory but after his impressive first half, Jabari Parker is the talk of the town. “He was terrific, we didn’t do a good job at all,” Kansas coach Bill Self said. “There late, I kind of wish we would have played Andrew on Jabari the whole time. He wanted to do that, but I was nervous about fouls. Fortunately it worked out OK. But he’s good. He was the best player in the game for a good stretch of the game.” The Parker v.s Wiggins matchup lived up to the hype and despite the Kansas win, I would have to give round one to Parker. “He’s good. He’s a good player,” Parker said of Wiggins. “But most importantly Kansas beat us.” I know I’m not the only one who’s hoping we get to see round two sometime in the spring.
