Maryland guard Dez Wells is suing his former school Xavier University for what he claims to be as a wrongful expulsion (Courtesy of the Washington Post) Dez Wells of the University of Maryland Terrapins basketball team, is suing his former school, Xavier University and it’s president,  Father Michael Graham in a civil suit involving Wells and his expulsion based on a sexual harassment charge that was never acted on. According to CSN Baltimore, Wells was expelled from the Cincinnati school for a sexual harassment charge that never happened. Local authorities told reporters that the case “didn’t reach anything close to a standard of proof” and Wells’ lawyer is claiming that the North Carolina native suffered severe emotional distress caused by the wrongful expulsion and asks that the expulsion be overturned. Wells has issued a statement through his lawyer: “From the moment this nightmare began, I’ve been trying to get everyone to understand that I am innocent.  The supposed leaders at Xavier destroyed my reputation. It needs to make this right. Xavier needs to set the record straight.”  Wells averaged 13.4 ppg  and started 36 of  37 games for the Terps who made it to the NIT Tournament, losing to Iowa in Wells, pictured far right, was involved in the infamous brawl that broke out between Cincinnati and Xavier. He was expelled from Xavier in October of 2012 for what the University called “a serious violation of the Code of Student Conduct.” Wells’ is best remembered for his involvement and subsequent suspension after a brawl broke out between Xavier and cross town rivals Cincinnati. Xavier University’s Conduct Board released this statement on the issue when it first happened: “The Xavier University Conduct Board (UCB), made up of faculty, students and administrators, found Xavier sophomore and basketball player Dezmine Wells responsible for a serious violation of the Code of Student Conduct. The punishment for the violation is expulsion from the University. “While we understand there is heightened interest in this situation because it involves a student-athlete, we must reiterate that first and foremost Xavier’s interest and responsibility to all of our students is to provide a quality education in a safe and nurturing environment. “A serious violation of Xavier’s Code of Student Conduct will not be tolerated. All Xavier students are subject to the same protections and consequences. “Because of Federal privacy law restrictions, no additional comments may be made in order to protect the privacy of those involved, and to honor the integrity of the UCB process.”   The lawsuit will take place in the United States District Court in Cincinnati, Ohio though no date as to when the lawsuit will start was given.   Be sure to follow us on Twitter for all your DC Sports Needs @DCSportsKings @DCsMikeyP
