Michigan State Basketball Recruiting: Welcome to MSU, Lowrawls Nairn Ryan McCumber 9/28/2013  MSU may have missed out on their first choice for a point guard recruit in Tyler Ulis, who committed to Kentucky, but they did not miss out on their second choice, Lourawls Nairn from Kansas.  “Tum Tum”, as some call him was the number 61 rated recruit in the country. MSU has had some disappointment thus far on the recruiting trail for the class of 2014, but Nairn was a huge get for MSU. Nairn had scholarship offers from Kansas, Indiana, Kansas State, Iowa, and Minnesota.  He said when he stepped on MSU’s campus, that it was the right place for him.   Players like to bring their best stuff on a big stage, Nairn has done that. He was one of the top point guards at the Peach Jam showcase, and played better than Tyler Ulis. He has also been to the LeBron James academy, where he was able to hold his own against players such as Andrew Harrison, Chris Chiozza, and Parker Jackson-Cartwright. Nairn plays his best against the best.   Nairn has drawn comparisons to former MSU guards Kalin Lucas and Travis Walton due to his tenacity on defense and speed. His shooting needs to improve, but he has only been playing basketball since he was 13, there is still plenty room to grow.   Whenever MSU is normally successful they have a top point guard. Mateen Cleaves, Travis Walton, Kalin Lucas, and Keith Appling. Nairn is hoping to be the next MSU point guard who flourishes under Tom Izzo. He told coach Izzo in a phone call “Coach, you ready to win a national championship?”   Now MSU is hoping for some more players to add to the 2014 class. Cliff Alexander, a big power forward from Chicago is the preferred choice right now. He is not taking an official visit to Michigan State, but continues to say he loves Tom Izzo and everything about MSU. Nairn is now going to sell Alexander on the MSU program. Nairn is most likely only the start for MSU’s class, and he may be a small guy, but he was a huge get for Tom Izzo.
