The 2012 NFL Draft is right around the corner, thus it is important that we here at Unathletic do some research on this year’s draft class. We’re previewing the steals of the draft, no mock, not top QB’s, we’re digging for gold here my friends.

With that said, we’ve perused the entire list of draft picks, analyzed some date, and tried our damnedest to identify guys who will be a pleasant surprise in the league going forward.

Feel free to contribute opionions. Hit the jump to see 5 Draft Day Steals…

5.) Trent Richardson – RB – Alabama

I’ve been reading reports that Richardson could fall all the way to the Bengals at 17. I’m not buying this for one second. You want to talk about sure things in this year’s draft – I believe it’s Justin Blackmon and Trent Richardson. This guy is an absolute beast and everything about him oozes NFL. I’m telling you right now, if he falls outside 10 – he’s a steal.

4.) Lamar Miller – RB – Miami

There’s a very strong chance Lamar Miller falls in the late second round – if that’s the case he’s a steal. He’s really a nice package of speed, shiftiness, good hands and good vision. I think whoever takes him will be pleasantly surprised during camp. I like this kid’s combination of speed and size for the NFL.

3.) Tank Carder – LB – TCU

Carder is a 3rd round pick that could pay dividends for a team. He’s got good size, good speed, and a motor. With the talk he could slip to rounds 4-5 I like Carder a lot as a value pick.

2.) Alshon Jeffery – WR – South Carolina

I really hate putting Jeffery here. His character issues have caused him to fall in the draft, but the kid is a physical specimen loaded with talent. I get a character disclaimer here!

1.) Bernard Pierce – RB – Temple

I love B. Pierce. I love this kid. He was All-World at Temple. He carried that team. He’s big, he’s fast, he’s a good kid. He is powerful and he can take a big workload. I love this pick in the 4th round. I know I got running back happy here, and very rarely do running backs pan out, but I love Pierce. Period.
