Desmond Trufant has a lot of expectation in the Trufant family. Two of his older brothers play in the NFL as well - Marcus plays for the Seattle Seahawks and was drafted in the first round in 2003, and Isiah, who is a New York Jet and cut his teeth in the Arena League and UFL before making the big leagues. The 2013 NFL Draft is very deep at the cornerback position and many analysts have Trufant rated very highly and have him projected to be selected in the first round.VitalsHeight: 6'0"Weight: 190 poundsPosition: cornerbackSchool: Washington HuskiesClass: seniorCombine Results:40-Yard Dash: 4.38 secondsVertical Jump: 37.50"Broad Jump: 10'5"Shuttle: 3.85 secondsBench Press: 16 repsCollege Production/StatsDesmond Trufant had a solid, if not spectacular, career with the Huskies. He earned the starting job as a true freshman in 2009 and recorded 48 tackles and 2 interceptions. He had similar numbers in the following three seasons. His final career stats were 195 tackles, 6 interceptions, and 38 passes defended with 3 forced fumbles. He started 45 straight games for the Huskies before missing his first game against Colorado in the 2013 season The 2013 season was also the first year he made the All-PAC 12 First-Team.StrengthsTrufant is capable of playing either on the outside as a No. 1 or No. 2 cornerback or in the slot as a nickel corner. This flexibility will be an important factor in his NFL career. Trufant also possesses the speed and quickness which allows him to beat the receiver and get to the ball first. He doesn't shy away from contact when lined up against the more physical receivers.WeaknessesTrufant has a bad habit of giving up on plays due to his suspect pressing skills. As as result, he's often seen diving at the ankles of receivers on big plays. He is often prone to mental lapses while playing in coverage situations which give up plays. He's also not great in run support, often being blocked by the receiver on the sidelines.Potential Landing SpotsThere are a number of teams looking for a cornerback to add to their rosters. The Atlanta Falcons need to improve their secondary after losing Brent Grimes to free agency. The Falcons had one of the worse pass defenses in the NFL during the 2013 season. While they ranked 5th for total interceptions they ranked 23rd for passing yards given up per game.Another team who could look to add Trufant in the Draft are the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers have a great defense but their secondary isn't that good outside of Troy Polamalu and Ike Taylor.  William Gay, recently re-signed after one year with the Arizona Cardinals, is not the long-term answer at cornerback for the Steelers.Other teams who could make a move for Trufant are the Detroit Lions, Oakland Raiders, Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers.Draft ProjectionDesmond Trufant is rated as the third or fourth best cornerback in the Draft behind Alabama's Dee Milliner and Xavier Rhodes of Florida State. This would make Trufant a mid-to-late first round pick. Some mock drafts have him going as high as No. 13 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; others have him going to the New England Patriots with the 29th pick.NFL ComparisonAntoine Cason formerly of the San Diego Chargers and now of the Arizona cardinals is probably the best comparison. They both share the same size and athleticism. Cason is probably better in coverage but they both show flashes of play-making ability.
