Found November 13, 2011 on Bush League Chronicle:
Boise State kicker Dan Goodale saw his game-winning field goal attempt as time expired sail wide right on Saturday, and with it, the Broncos' legitimate chance of winning a BCS National Championship.

Here are some other notable missed field goals that either altered a team's season or re-wrote the record books....much like Goodale's did:

Believe it or not, the Broncos were victims of TWO ill-timed, missed field goals in 2010. Facing the Wolfpack in Nevada, senior kicker Kyle Brotzman missed a potential game-winning kick at the end of regulation and then missed a chip shot in OT to dash any hopes of an undefeated season.

A botched snap by Tony Romo costs the Dallas Cowboys dearly as they fail to get off an easy field goal against the Seattle Seahawks in the 2007 playoffs. Seattle wins the game 21-20 thanks to the faux pas by "America's Team".

San Diego Chargers defensive back Antonio Cromartie returns a missed field goal 109-yards against the Vikins in 2009...the longest play in NFL history and a record that may be tied, but never broken.

Indianapolis Colts kicker Mike Vanderjagt fails to connect on a 46-yarder with 17 seconds remaining -- helping the Pittsburgh Steelers seal a 21-18 victory during the 2006 playoffs.

San Diego Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding misses THREE crucial kicks as his team falls to the New York Jets at home during the 2010 playoffs.

Déjà vu: For the second consecutive year, a missed kick seals Boise State BCS fate
