Day two is in the books.  The pads came on and the play intensified.  Some big changes from yesterday in the way play went down.  I love seeing how much these guys care.  That love for the game goes a long way at these events.  It makes things much more competitive.

I loved some of the feisty nature of play on the North Side.  I expect to see a fight tomorrow.  Mike Brewster of Ohio State and Mike Martin of Michigan have been going at it all week.  It is getting close to ugly and it should come to blows tomorrow.  Especially if Martin continues to whoop Brewster the way he has been.

No offense to the North Side either but the way these teams played out the South is stacked.  It is especially so on defense.  The South has four first round picks on their defensive line.  It was ridiculous to watch today in practice.  They are just crazy good.

Observations:

  1. Melvin Ingram and Courtney Upshaw will climb everyones draft boards this week.  It did not matter who they went up against they abused that person.  They are both short and strong.  James Harrison’s name came up numerous time when talking about Melvin Ingram.  After watching the coverage on NFL Network after I got home it was annoying how much they were slurping him though.  It was hard to take.
  2. Brandon Weeden wishes he was not so old.  Weeden is 28 and is playing great.  He is already about mid career and has not had any NFL coaching.  If it takes him a year or two to learn the system he is in then he is not worth the pick.  Especially not a high pick.
  3. Kevin Zeitler came back today.  He was awful yesterday and today he looked as if he was getting back in stride.  I still think he is rated way to high though.  Late second early third in my opinion.  Too many people have him as a late first round pick and no way in hell is he a better guard prospect then Cordy Glenn.  Much better day for him though.  Hopefully he continues to improve upon it.
  4. Lavonte David is a hustler.  He did great at special teams practice.  He also looked good in what the Steelers call backs on backers.  He is not a run stopper though.  It will cost him but whoever picks him up in the draft will have a special teams demon on their hands.
  5. Casey Hayward played well on the outside today.  He looks good in coverage even in the drill that I do not like.  He is up on his man and follows him all over the field.  It was the best coverage I saw all day.
