Mop Up Duty:
A top 20 pre-season fantasy player, David Wright is and will continue to be one of the biggest fantasy busts of 2007. Why? The answer is pretty simple actually...

1) Why does Wright look like the guy from Office Space who works at Flingers and says "Get a room you too!"
2) David Wright has been known to press. In the minors one year, he wasn't hitting for as much power as the team thought he should be. The diagnosis, he was spending too much time in the batting cage, wearing himself out before games. When they finally got him to back off of that routine, he started hitting for power again. I think he's pressing now. He may have worse numbers than last year, but I think he's going to have a few ridiculous spurts that will ultimately make his numbers look pretty nice. I love the boldness on the 17 HR claim, but I'd be shocked if he doesn't surpass that. So shocked that I'll send an autopenned 8x10 of yours truly, Roger Dorn to you if he ends up in the teens in the power department.

Roger: strangest thing in the world. I posted my column today with a reference to the same exact guy from Office Space, only to peruse YardBarker and notice you had made the same comparison. I'm not sure what the odds are on that, but I'm sure they're not very good.

For the sake of David Wright's fantasy success, we need to come up with a cooler celeb/movie look-alike. Unfortunately, I hate the Mets so all I could come up with was Paula Poundstone with shorter hair.

Since the 2006 all-star break (including 2007), David Wright has had:
301 AB
6 HR
Let's assume he has a 602 AB season and keeps this "torrid" pace.
Final Stas:
602 AB
12 HR
This would place him slightly above Ryan Freel in HR's. Freel would average just above 10 HR in 602 AB, pro-rated from 2006 numbers.

Anyways, some may say he's slumping but 301 AB is far from a small sample. That's more than half a season's worth of AB's. So throw the "slow start/slumping" arguement out the window...

I guess using your analysis, Albert Pujols, Mark Teixera, and Travis Hafner, Derek Lee and Ryan Zimmerman will be fantasy busts this year as well, since they're all off to slow starts this April.
In case you weren't paying attention, which it seems is the case, David Wright put up a .305 BA/.375 OBA/.469 SLG in the second half of last season. He's not a 40 home run guy either, he's a gap to gap hitter who might get you 25 dingers a year.
Words of wisdom from the Geico caveman, maybe you should do a little research next time.

If you recall, or if you took the time to read the article in question, we made the David Wright low HR total call way back in November, not after a couple of weeks of sample size/slumping. Say what you will, but so far our prediction is looking pretty good!
On top of that, as with many "Internet Guys", you have to resort to childish name calling. Way to go tough guy!

David Wright may set a career high in home runs and be a 30-30 player this season. He's a legitimate MVP candidate.
