A situation that is likely going to get dicey got under way today: the Ryan Howard salary arbitration. Today was the day that players and teams exchanged salary arbitration numbers and the Phillies and Howard are already 4 million dollars apart. The big slugger requested 18 million dollars while the Phillies offered 14.Howard already won a huge case last year that gave him a 10 million dollar contract and now he is requesting the 3rd highest amount in arbitration history....Click for more on this situation.....

Seems like a high offer from Howard, there's no way the Phillies will agree to that. Right in the middle, 16 million, seems pretty good

Bill Conlin doesn't understand arbitration
So I'm perusing this rant from Bill Conlin, about how stupid the Phillies are for not paying Ryan Howard whatever he wants... And it includes this: After Howard filed for arbitration last week and numbers were exchanged, the Phillies' offer to Ryan by crack negotiator Ruben Gillbuckle was the identic...

PayDay: Ryan Howard
I was a bit shocked yesterday when I heard the news of Ryan Howard winning the arbitration hearing. After all, awarding $10 million to a 1st year eligible player is a record, but then again Ryan Howard seems to be always setting records so it seems fitting. I'm happy for Ryan, he deserves it. However, I'm sad for the Phillies because this almost certainly places Howard out...

Tale of Two Cities: Philly/NY
Phillies were triumphant last night with Kentucky Joe Blanton on the mound and Ryan Howard's mammoth bat. The got their magic number down to 1, which could be done today when Jamie Moyer takes the mound against the Nationals. All this is made possible by the Mets choking like the pieces of crap they are. The Marlins spanked them good, and Mets fans used their rally towels as tissues...

Better Story: Ladies Loving Tebow or FSU Cheating?
It’s a photo of Tim Tebow with a nickel. He’s still got a ways to go to reach Brady Quinn status, that’s for sure. Heck, we’d take Ryan Howard’s girl over Tebow’s arm candy (unless, of course, Tebow brings this girl back).
The bowl games begin Thursday, so start to...
Postgame: Hot Howard helps Phillies take first step
Ryan Howard hit his third home run in as many days, while Jamie Moyer earned his 14th win and pitched into the sixth inning on short rest, as the Phils closed the gap with the Wild Card-leading Brewers with a 6-3 victory. Other standouts included Ryan Madson, who pitched two shutout innings of relief, and Carlos Ruiz, who answered back after a two-run Milwaukee sixth with an RBI...
Werth's 4 RBI lead Phillies over Braves
I spent most of the night watching the Flyers, but there were some interesting things to come out of the Phillies 5-4 win over the Braves:
*Jayson Werth leads the offense: Werth had been struggling for the last few weeks, but he busted out tonight with a 3 hit, 4 RBI night. All 3 of his hits were singles with runners in scoring position. Werth should continue to have a big role...
