As I had indicated might happen a few weeks ago, former Mets outfielder Shawn Green has officially retired... READ MORE

  • I was surprised Green was only an all-star twice. He had some monster seasons before Dodgers Stadium and Shea Stadium destroyed his career.
  • Sure Dodger Stadium may have taken away some of his "homers" but he did hit 49 and 42 as a member of the team in back to back years. he had some monster seasons but seemed to just slowly run out of gas with the Dodgers. By the time he joined the mets after a stay in Arizona he was nothing more then a fourth outfielder.

Duaner Down, But Not Out

"Sometimes you're a little sore or whatever," [Willie] Randolph said. "It's early in the spring. Just pushed back a day. He'll be ready to go tomorrow. … It's nothing to be concerned about. Sometimes guys, day-to-day, are a little sore. It could be anywhere on their body. And that's what he said he was, so he's pushed back a day. Don't...

Are You Ready For Some Grapefruit?

Yesterday the team played an exhibition game against the Michigan Wolverines. The outcome of the game - a 4-4 tie - is of little consequence (most of the regulars who participated came out in the early innings), however, of more interest to fans is the way the Mets led off the bottom of the 1st inning. Jose Reyes legged out an easy double before advancing to third on an out. David...

Mets Hope Kunz Rules

Today in the Daily News, John Harper decides to jinx one of the Mets' nice young arms, writing that in 6?5? reliever Eddie Kunz, the Mets believe they have a candidate to pursue the trail blazed by Joba Chamberlain in the Bronx last season, rocketing from A-ball to become a dominant major league reliever in his first pro season.

Spring Pressure?

Is there such a thing as a "must win" in spring training? After the Mets got pounded 7-0 by the Juan-gone juiced(?) Cardinals yesterday and with organizational savior Johan Santana making his Mets debut on the hill, the argument could be made that this is in fact, a must win for the Metropolitans.

Yankee Stadium Fun Police

For the past few weeks Yankee Stadium security has banned all insulting or derogatory chanting from the bleachers. The banning spawned from an incident when the Yankees were playing the Mets and someone made an anti-Semitic remark to the Mets Jewish right fielder, Shawn Green. An outraged fan sent a letter to the Yankees and thus the end of 'fun' in the bleachers.

David Is "Wright" On Milledge

Lastings Milledge never felt as though he fit in, in the Mets clubhouse and was made to be the outcast of the team. Earlier this week, while speaking with John Donovan of SI.com, Milledge vented. I guess Milledge was not hoping to reconcile with his former 'mates. Mets third baseman David Wright took exception to Lastings comments. The most infamous of the events that Milledge...

Hope Springs Internally

...the winter seems to have lasted forever around here in the NY/LI area. In fact, we just received our first serious snowfall of the season 3 days ago. This past winter's weather has closely followed the outlook of the diehard Mets fan; cold, bleak and unforgiving.

Mets in trouble with MLB

Only a day into spring training and the New York Mets are already in trouble with the commissioner's office. So what did the Mets do? They violated MLB rules on how many "regular" players must attend road spring training games. They brought only 1 regular to their game vs the Detroit Tigers. What makes this violation worse is JUST the day before, MLB executive VP Jimmie Lee Solomon...

Inside The Mind of a Mets Fan

I'm sure this post will bring in a lot of flack from Phillies fans and fans of other NL East teams, but I'm not concerned. I'm confident there are "decent typing" fans out there who can tell the difference between a direct insult and a generalization (which is what I'm doing here). So what might be on the mind of Mets fans going into the 2008 Season? After...

I Do Not Want To See Joe Torre's Man Boobs

Most of you have probably already seen this commercial, but hopefully it didn't traumatize you, like it did me. Yeah, I get the commercial, it's a cute idea. Still, if I ever made a list of things I never ever wanted to see, Joe Torre's man chesticles would be right at the top. It would be an extremely close race between that and Shawn Green circumcision pictures. Continued...

The Mets Love Old Farts

There is a little bit of buzz in NYC that since the Yanks havent offered up a deal to Bernie Williams (for good reason, they have an all-star outfield and Melky on the bench), that the Mets might be interested. Of course, the Mets already have filled their tired old man quota with Alou (40) in the OF and Shawn Green (only 34, but plays older than Alou). Then again, Bernie is a...
