TEAMS: New York Yankees
Yankees leadoff hitter Johnny Damon was not in the starting lineup last night and may not be at all in the immediate future.
This recent development is bad news for the Yankees as they are already scrambling to fill-out their lineup. Yesterday the team designated Josh Phelps for assignment and will now be using Andy Phillips, who is a career .227 hitter, everyday at first.
This still leaves the DH position wide open though it will likely be filled by Hideki Matsui, which means you'll be seeing rookie Kevin Thompson in left field.

Aren't they 8-2 in their last ten games and just moved to two games over .500? Maybe they shouldn't add anyone, it might have been addition by ego subtraction....

Andy Phillips Rides Again!
Yesterday, the Yankees promoted infielder and cult hero Andy Phillips from AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Phillips had been playing well down there, batting .301 with 11 homers and 36 RBIs. Over the last two years, Phillips has battled some trying personal issues, including his wife's fight with cancer and his mother's recovery from a critical car accident. He missed a large...
How Giambi Can Help With The Mitchell Investigation
BC Sports contributing editor Sal Marinello gives Giambi some unsolicited advice when he testifies. He won't have to name names, just explain the process athletes use to get performance enhancers.
Giambi To Talk With Steroid Investigator
Yahoo sports wrote that Jason Giambi will speak with George Mitchell, the man heading the investigation into steroid use in baseball.
Giambi will be the 1sy player to work along side the Senate with this issue, but said that he "will address my own personal history regarding steroids. I will not discuss in any fashion any other individual."
We'll see.
A New Yankee First
The Yankees are the first Major League team to go to a new part of the far East looking for talent: China. The AP is reporting that the Yankees have agreed to contracts with pitcher Kai Liu and catcher Zhenwang Zhang, making them the first modern day Chinese baseball players signed to play in the United States.
Giambi to Talk to Mitchell
The New York Daily News is reporting that Jason Giambi will meet with George Mitchell regarding baseball's ongoing steroids investigation. Instead of fighting Bud Selig (even though the players union was fully behind Giambi), Giambi is choosing just to address the issue in an attempt to "put the whole thing behind him."
Selig making a mockery of the game
Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig's treatment of Jason Giambi is just the latest example of Selig making a mockery of the game.

Yankee Karma's Gonna Get You
There's a great piece about Carl Pavano by Michael Weinreb on ESPN.com today. It's at least well-written if not totally complete; Pavano and his parents weren't interviewed for the article. Though he did pull an interview with Pavano's ex-girlfriend Gia Allemand. Nice.
Anyway, the subject of "karma" comes up. Allemand says that Pavano may have gotten...
Teixeira to the Bronx: When, Not If?
FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Texas Rangers have been scouting Yankee prospects in expectation that the Bombers will make a run at acquiring first baseman Mark Teixeira.
The Rangers are reportedly seeking rookie pitcher Phil Hughes in return. The Yanks consider Hughes "untouchable" and the Rangers are dreaming if they think he can be had for Teixeira...
Gagne to NY?
Discussing rumors about Gagne going to the yankees. He makes $5 million with a chance to make $11 million. He has a no-trade clause, but the Yankees are one of only 3 large market teams who could be interested that doesn't have to give his consent to. Gagne would rather go to a team as a closer, with the Yankees he would be expected to serve as a setup man.
Clemens and Franco qualify for senior discount
Another great post from "Lion in Oil" blog
"When 48-year-old Julio Franco flied out against 44-year-old Roger Clemens ending the second, they became the oldest batter-pitcher matchup in the major leagues since Nick Altrock of the Washington Senators grounded out against the Philadelphia Athletics' Rube Walberg in the 11th inning on Oct. 1, 1933, according...
We should be rooting for A-Rod
Alex Rodriguez is an object scorn no matter where he goes, sometimes even in Yankee Stadium. Maybe, instead of jeering him, baseball fans everywhere should be rooting for him to erase Barry Bonds' name from the record books.
New Yorkers in the All-Star Game
Another year, another strong showing for New York baseball teams in All-Star Game balloting. The Mets and Yankees both have impressive numbers of players in the top five of positions on the diamond. The Yankees currently boast five players at or near the top of a positional leader board. Jason Giambi is fourth among first basemen, Robinson Cano and Jorge Posada are second among second...
Kimbo Slice Owns Baltimore
The national television audience average for Kimbo Slice's MMA fight against Kevin Thompson was 2.7 percent of all American homes.
About 4.4 percent of homes in Baltimore were watching a man get banged in his head 31 consecutive times, and an exploding ear.
Torii Hunting for Next Contract in New York
With Johnny Damon's rapid deterioration as a viable option in center, it appears the Idiot's future lies at DH, first base, or the corner outfield spots. Center field belongs to Melky Cabrera for the time being...until GM Brian Cashman can find a big money alternative. Hunter is joined by the Braves' Andruw Jones and Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki as high profile center...
