Throw The Flag:
Tempers flared in the snow between the Big 12 West Virginia Mountaineers and the Big East Syracuse Orange. This field in complete snow with all the players wrapped up in gear to keep them kind of warm. Patches of snow are left on the ground and player’s breathes can be seen even on your home television. Would that stop these teams from a pre-game brawl? Absolutely not. The New Era Pinstrike Bowl will be full of patches of snow and probably a lot of fumbles. Gene Smith leads West Virginia on the field against the Syracuse Orange where you can barely see the Big XII logo on the field. Hopefully another player throws a snowball at another player or hopefully Dana Holgerson lobs a nice snowball at someone. That would just be great television. [ESPN]
BEST OF MAXIM
The Weirton Daily Times in Weirton, West Virginia didn’t mean for this typo to get into the Sunday paper. Or… perhaps they did. Either way, this “accidental” bit of word greatness accurately sums up the Pinstripe Bowl and the season half of West Virginia’s 2012 season as well. Graphic… but spot on. Please, someone get [...]
It's a question West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen didn't particularly want to answer after his team's 38-14 loss to Syracuse in Saturday's Pinstripe Bowl.
But as the curtain closed, amid a raging snowstorm, on a fruitless 7-6 season that no one could've foreseen, it's one that begged to be asked.
What the heck happened to the Mountaineers?
See, it wasn...
The official Twitter account of the Orange Bowl took a shot at West Virginia over last year's game. See the clever joke here.
Geno Smith played in his final game as the starting quarterback for the West Virginia Mountaineers in the 2012 Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium before he prepares for the 2013 NFL Draft. Suffice to say, things did not go how Smith would have scripted his final college football game of his great career.
It was one thing for the high powered offense of the Mountaineers to get stifled...
Whoever is running the @OrangeBowl definitely doesn’t lack a sense of humor. In last years’ Orange Bowl, the West Virginia Mountaineers defeated the Clemson Tigers 70 to 33 in what was a complete blow out. West Virginia subsequently put up a billboard to display the score of the game that also happened to be their speed limit. Well, whoever is running the Orange Bowl’s Twitter...
For some, not every bowl game is worth watching. But we all saw what West Virginia did to Clemson in last year's Orange Bowl, a 70-33 blowout win for the Mountaineers. This season, WVU started 5-0 behind ridiculous play from QB Geno Smith. However, due to their horrendous defense, ranked 116th in points allowed, West Virginia slid to just 7-5 before qualifying for the Pinstripe...
Many experts predicted combined point totals of over 100 in this year's New Era Pinstripe Bowl between Syracuse and West Virginia. There was just one problem: only one offense showed up. The Orange dominated from start to finish, blasting the Mountaineers, 38-14, at a snowy Yankee Stadium. Conditions were a factor, but let's keep in mind: both teams are at the same...
NEW YORK (AP) -- Prince-Tyson Gulley ran for 217 yards and had three touchdowns, Syracuse scored twice on safeties and the Orange bid a snow-covered farewell to the Big East with a 38-14 victory over West Virginia in the Pinstripe Bowl on Saturday.
Syracuse (8-5) will enter the Atlantic Coast Conference on a roll after finishing this season with six wins in its last seven games...
West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen wanted to use Syracuse's recent success against the Mountaineers as the fuel for the Pinstripe Bowl. Maybe that message got lost in West Virginia's move to the Big 12 this season.
Syracuse ended West Virginia's first full season removed from the Big East with a 38-14 beat down in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl in home of baseball'...
West Virginia vs. Syracuse
Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY
Saturday, December 29th, 3:15 PM on ESPN
The Pinstripe Bowl is tied with the Heart of Dallas Bowl as the youngest of the postseason games, beginning just two years ago when the new Yankee Stadium opened. With the Big East and Big 12 tie-ins the game had an opportunity to take West Virginia and Pittsburgh and stay the...
After Syracuse finished dominating West Virginia 38-14 in the 2012 Pinstripe Bowl, a happy Doug Marrone and Prince-Tyson Gulley spoke to the media about the win.
Prince-Tyson Gulley had a career day for Syracuse in their blowout win over West Virginia in the Pinstripe Bowl. His huge day was one of the biggest reasons why the Orange were victorious.
Several Syracuse players spoke after Syracuse's big win over West Virginia in the Pinstripe Bowl. Among them were seniors Ryan Nassib, Siriki Diabate, and Shamarko Thomas.
